All About Beta!!

Beta is a national organization that focuses on leadership, character, academic achievement, and service among elementary, middle, and high school students.

Gillis Beta Club is open at all fourth and fifth grade students with a 3.3 GPA or higher and outstanding behavior. Students must maintain a “B” average or better and an “O” in conduct on their report card. After report cards are issued each 9 weeks, it should be dropped in Mrs. Gormanous’s box for checking.

Students will pay $30 nonrefundable fee for National Beta dues, school dues, and t-shirts. Each member must obtain a minimum of 20 pre-selected services hours and participate in our annual pizza kit fundraiser. The fundraiser is helping decrease cost for district and state convention and our annual field trip.

Meetings will mostly be on the second Tuesday of each month from 3:05 to 4:00. Parents are responsible for providing transportation for your child after each meeting. Students must be picked up on time. Pick up will be in back bus dock at 4:00pm. After 2 times of being picked up late, students will be escorted to extended day. There will be a fee of $10 to be paid at time of pick up.

Demerits for Beta

1 Demerit will be given to the student for the following:

·  Misses a meeting without an excused absence. Excuse must be turned in within 3 days of meeting.

·  Does not turn in a copy of their report within 3 days of receiving it.

·  Parent does not pick them up by 10 min. after schedule pick up time.

·  Inappropriate behavior determined by sponsors/Teacher for school related activities

·  More than 5 min. late to meetings

More than 10 demerits and they will be removed from Beta
