Dear Homeroom Parents/Students,

Welcome to FOURTH GRADE!!! This is an exciting year to watch your children grow. There are some important information that I would like to share with you about our classroom. I will see your child for a very small amount of time in the morning to check binders and collect any monies/notes. BINDERS….this is our communication tool between teachers and parents. It is divided between subjects/teachers. Each teacher will place their class papers behind their subject divider. Students will write assignments that are taught each day on their agenda under each subject. THIS IS NOT ALWAYS HOMEWORK. It is a way for you to see what your child did in class that day. Ask them if they finished it….if not…it should be in their binder as homework. The only homework is unfinished classwork, reading their weekly story, or studying. Please sign it nightly and place any monies and notes in the zipper pouch located in the front.

TRANITIONING BETWEEN CLASSES is going to be a change your children will get used to. I will try my best to help them with this. Organization is a big help! All teachers have different personalities, but we try to work together as closely as possible for your children. In our homeroom, WE ARE A FAMILY! We help and care for one another. For the first couple of weeks, we will discuss what makes a classroom family and leadership skills that help with leading others to do what is right. We will work together to make a class mission statement and help be great leaders for our school. We do have a BEHAVIOR SYSTEM we use between teachers, but as your homeroom teacher, I will determine your consequence or reward for behaviors as it fits.

HOLIDAYS AND PARTIES…on days of celebration, we won’t have rotations between classes. We celebrate Christmas and Valentine’s Day. If you want to bring cupcakes for a birthday, please do so in the cafeteria during lunch time. We will also have days when we shorten our rotations between classes to 30 minutes instead of an hour do to abbreviated days or school assembly days.

FIELD TRIPS…We will hope to go on at least two field trips this year. Any ideas are welcome. I will let you know in advance when and where we are going. Parents are welcome to attend. VOLUNTEERS are also welcome into my classroom, but please give me a day’s notice so I can plan for you. I can use help with copies, laminating, helping with field trip information, holiday celebrations, Fall Festival, Spring Auction, crafts, and much more!

Are there MATH PROGRAMS that will you can use at home with your children…YES! IXL is the best online program I have found, and we have purchased it through a grant. I will get your child’s username and password together as quickly as I can. Once they have this information, they can access it anywhere with internet. Also, many free online programs have multiplication games that help with memorizing basic facts. A.R. has always been popular at Black Fox with all the fabulous rewards we offer. I encourage getting an early start on this and make it a nightly habit. Chapter books are encouraged in Fourth grade to expand vocabulary.

GRADED WORK WILL BE PASSED OUT WEEKLY. The other teachers will give me your children’s graded work, but I only grade MATH. Parent may check the grade portal for access to grades, missing assignments, or make up work. If there happens to be an X, it means they were absent or excused from this. A blank grade is a missing assignment. I am not always on time with putting grades in as quickly as they are graded, but I do try. Please ask if you ever have a question with a grade. It could be your child’s grade hasn’t been added yet. MISSING ASSIGNMENTS AND MAKE UP WORK have been the hardest thing about rotating classes. Please turn work in promptly…and remind me if you miss one of my Math classes. If you were at school and do not turn work in there is no excuse! BE RESPONSIBLE 

I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO GETTING TO KNOW THE CHILDREN AND PARENTS THIS YEAR!! Let’s have a SUPER year!
