  1. How did Philip show his growing self-sufficiency during Timothy’s bout with malaria?
  2. When Philip learned to fish, he was alone at the reef; yet, he did not mind being by himself. Compare this attitude to the way Philip felt when he first arrived on the island.
  3. What did Philip really mean when he asked timothy, “Are you still black?”
