A SENATE RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE ABBEVILLE HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING TEAM FOR A SUCCESSFUL SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THE COACHES, SCHOOL OFFICIAL OFFICIALS, AND THE WRESTLERS FOR WINNING THE 2009 CLASS AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
Whereas, after a successful 264 season, the Abbeville High School wrestling Panthers pummeled the twotime state champion Lions from Loris High School to bring home the state championship trophy; and
Whereas, the Abbeville Panthers developed mental fortitude and winning strategies, and individual excellence which provided the strength and determination that led them to victory; and
Whereas, using their own athletic ability and leadership skills, Coaches Anthony Martin, Wayne Botts, and Bret Werts forged a championship team through long, arduous practices that included running hills, stadiums, and sprints and lifting weights; and
Whereas, Adam Oaks, Andrew Tillman, Josh Cowan, and Antonio Tillman, were named Upper State Champs, and Bryan Glace joined them as Individual Skyline Region Champs; and
Whereas, Bryan Glace and Josh Cowan were chosen to participate in the North/South All-Star Wrestling Match, and Coach Martin was selected to coach the North/South AllStar Wrestling Match; and
Whereas, at the State Championship match, Panthers Jonathan Patterson, Adam Oaks, and Antonio Tillman prevailed in their matches to be named individual State Champs; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate take great pleasure in commending the Loris High School Wrestling team for bringing recognition and pride to their school and to their community by capturing the Class AA State Championship. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Abbeville High School wrestling team for a successful season and congratulate the coaches, school officials, and the wrestlers for winning the 2009 Class AA State Championship title.
