Engineering Design & Drawing For Production

- A Solid Modeling Approach -

Grades 9 - 12 (Honors) 1 Unit

Pre-requisite: Currently maintaining an 85 or higher average in Math

An introductory course, which develops student problem solving skills, with emphasis placed upon the concept of developing a 3-D model or solid rendering of an object.

Students focus on visualization processes and tools provided by modern, state-of-the-art computer hardware and Autodesk software.

***Course will meet the 1 Unit of regents credit for Art/Music***

3D Design and Modeling I & II Fall/ Spring 1/2 Unit Each

For the students that may not have the 85 math requirement for Project Lead The Way, but still wants to have a chance at the program! Successful completion of this course and Instructor permission gets you into Project Lead The Way as a sophomore, Using 3D Design in place of EDDP. What a deal!

An introductory course, focusing on utilizing the design process to solve technical problems with 2 dimensional drawing techniques and 3 dimensional modeling capabilities.

Tech DDP has been designed to replace the traditional CAD 1, and offers the skills developed in the Engineering DDP course for students interested in 3-D modeling, but not necessarily in the pre-engineering program (PLTW).

***Course will meet the 1/2 Unit of regents credit for Art/Music***

Home Repair and Maintenance I & II Fall/ Spring ½ Unit Each

Learn how construction is done. A variety of hand and power tools will be used to complete laboratory activities. The student will also have an opportunity to become familiar with the various materials and fasteners used in home repair and maintenance. Various systems in the home will also be studied: heating, water, electrical, security, sound, etc. Student can develop entry-level skills for future employment in the construction industry.

Computer Graphics I & II Fall/ Spring ½ Unit Each

In this course you will create graphic layouts using a desktop computer. Learn how to use a computer to draw, paint, scan, and surf the internet. Layouts and images will be printed on a black and white or colored printer. Students will use a variety of Adobe software programs to develop layouts similar to those used in the graphics industry today.

Manufacturing Systems Spring ½ Unit

Hands-on experience in manufacturing a product. Students will design a product, create all necessary jigs and fixtures and produce a product using an assembly line.

Career And Financial Management (Technology) Fall ½ Unit

The course is divided into two modules, The Working Citizen and Personal Resource Management. The Working Citizen is designed to expose students to the “real world” of working for a living. Topics include choosing a career, applying for employment, what employers look for and how to keep a job. Personal Resource Management is designed to help students develop financial awareness, time management and people skills. Project based learning takes place through Technology Education activities (building projects).

Basic Electricity/Electronics Spring ½ Unit

This course is designed to introduce students to the elements of electricity and electronics. Hands on experience in building various projects, house wiring, and Basic Electricity/Electronics using circuit boards.

ARCHITECTURAL COURSE WORK

Architectural Drafting Fall ½ Unit

This course will introduce students to the basic elements of the Architectural profession and the work of an Architect. Students will be introduced to Architectural drafting (i.e.: site planning, floor plans, front elevations, detail drawings, etc.), the construction techniques and terminology used to create a building, and a familiarity with local, state, and federal building codes.

3D Architectural Design- **NEW COURSE** Spring ½ Unit

Pre-requisite: Architectural Drafting

This course will build upon the basic elements learned in Architectural Drafting by introducing cutting edge 3 dimensional software that will be used to create Architectural structures. The construction techniques and terminology used to create a building, the familiarity with local, state, and federal building codes, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing will be expanded upon.

Construction Systems Fall ½ Unit

Hands-on experience in construction. Students will experience building a structure which may include Floors, Walls, Roofing, Ceiling, Wiring, Insulation and Plumbing. This course will explore career clusters in the construction industry.
