GENERAL INFORMATION ON THE SHAN STATE INVESTMENT FAIR
VENUE AND DATE
The Shan State Investment Fair will be held at the Royal Taunggyi Hotel, Taunggyi on 10 February 2017 (Friday), co-organized by Myanmar Investment Commission (MIC), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Southern Shan State Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SSCCI).
The Shan State Investment Fair is comprised of the Investment Seminar (10 February AM), the Business Matching Event (10 February PM), the Exhibition (10 February AM and PM) and the optional Site Visit Tour (11 February).

GROUND TRANSPORTATION
Free transportation will be provided by the organizers to all participants from Heho Airport to Royal Taunggyi Hotel or other designated hotels below on 9 and 10 February and from the hotels to airport for departure on 10 to 11 February 2017, only if the participants are able to arrive at the bus before the following designated departure time. A liaison officer will be assigned at Heho Airport on 9 and 10 February 2017.

All participants attending the optional site visit tour on 11 February 2017 will be taken to the Heho Airport at the end of the tour.

GENERAL INFORMATION ON TAUNGGYI, SHAN STATE, MYANMAR
LOCATION
Taunggyi is the capital of Shan state, the largest state in size in Myanmar. Taunggyi is situated about 456 miles North East of Yangon. Shan State has 155,796 km2 of vast and diversified land that enables various types of agriculture, tourism and other industries. Shan State shares the long border line with China, Thailand and Laos and acts as the most active gateway for border trade through Muse in particular, and Tachileik.
CULTURE
Taunggyi is the melting pot for the plain area of the Shan State. Like in most of Myanmar, influence of Buddhism is most evidenced by the monasteries scattered throughout the city. However, being a relatively new city, the monasteries are not of historical significance and architecturally not unique. There is also a significant Christian population, as the center of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Taunggyi the St. Joseph's Cathedral and its associated seminary are the main facilities, as well as a Baptist church, both established by early missionaries. There is also a smaller Anglican church, which originally served the British administrators, but recently it has fallen into a state of disrepair. Four mosques serve the Muslim population of the city, Myo Oo Pali, A Lae Pali and Taung Pali are for large population of Burmese Muslims, and Panthay Pali for the Chinese Panthay Muslims. There are also a few temples serving the Chinese Buddhist community.
HOW TO REACH THERE
The main access to Taunggyi is by the mountainous road. A railway line that passes through Taunggyi was recently built in 1995, but at the moment it offers no passenger service to Taunggyi. Regular railway passenger service to the rest of the country is through the town of Shwe Nyaung, 12 miles (19 km) to the west.
The nearest airport is Heho Airport, 24 mi (39 km) about an hour driving distance, by road to the west of Taunggyi. (see attached domestic flight schedule of Yangon-Heho)
CUSTOMS
Foreign currencies (above USD 10,000), jewelry, cameras, and electronic goods must be declared to the customs at the airport. Exports of antiques and archaeologically valuable items are prohibited.
VISA
Nationals from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand (by air only) and Singapore do not require a visa to enter Myanmar for visits up to 14 days. The other citizens have to apply for visa at the Myanmar Embassies at the respective countries. For visa-on-arrival, please email us the participant's name and passport number to E-mail: and before 31st January 2017.
CURRENCY
The local currency is the "Kyat" and notes are issued in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000, 5000 and 10000.
Credit cards such as MasterCard, Visa Card can be used at the international hotels in Myanmar.
