Datastore Naming Conventions
The datastore naming convention that we follow helps to quickly identify what type of storage a particular datastore is on. We feel this is more important than naming a datastore something that coralates to a specific virtual machine because under normal circumstances multiple virtual machines will be contained on each datastore. Our naming convention is as follows:
Local Storage:
Type of storage - ESX Hostname – Datastore number
Example: LOCAL-ESX1-1 (Meaning Local storage on ESX host number 1 and its LUN number 1)
SAN Storage:
Disk Type – RAID Level – LUN Number
Example: SAS-R10-5 (meaning Serial Attached SCSI disks in Raid 10 and its LUN number 5)
However If you prefer something else please note it below:
Virtual Networking
Will all Virtual Machines operate in the same VLAN ?
If “NO” List additional VLAN numbers as well as what the “Port Group” Name should be
VlAN Number / Port Group NameExample: 99 / DMZ Servers
