Corporate Deputy Director of Human Resources and Industrial Relations

-Managed the corporate policy of human resources and labour costs control of the subsidiaries of the holding company (building, mining, shipyards, steel, transport, defence companies like HUNOSA, BAZÁN, SANTA BÁRBARA, AESA, IBERIA, INITEC, POTASAS, INESPAL among others). I co-ordinated an economic and legal staff to practice the policy of control and monitoring and to participate directly in negotiations of important labour agreements at high levels, (HUNOSA. INESPAL, etc...) among other responsibilities. Besides:

  • Participated in preparing companies for privatisation.
  • Responsible for the representation of S.E.P.I before European Commission committees and the European Centre of Enterprises with Public Participation in labour related matters.

  • Managed the salary, training and career policy of high level staff (divisional, deputy and department directors)

Human Resources Director, Member of the Executive Board.

I was in charge of the organisation and launching of the position that was new. The whole human resources amounted to 800 people (mainly white collars) established in the Headquarters, regional delegations around Spain and foreign trade International Offices all over the world. In the last case, many local workers were complying with the laws of their country and I had to deal with this fact as an important aspect of my job. I was entrusted with the task of changing the climate of the company, abandoning administrative habits and gaining in dynamism and modern, customer-oriented management. For that purpose:

  • Participated in the general strategy of the company as a member of the Board (five members)
  • Implemented an audit of Human Resources.
  • Designed and managed the policies and plans of action to set up new systems of recruitment, training for change, wage and salary systems, job evaluation and, very important, internal communication.
  • Implemented a new computerised system for staff management and administration.
  • Negotiated new collective agreements.
  • Organised outside network in labour management aspects, simultaneously with the introduction of Intranet and on- line communications in accordance with the technical Division.
  • My budget was over 3 billion ptas. ( 18 million euro)

  • I led the setting up of the firm: targets and means, definition of commercial actions, negotiations with suppliers, implementation of procedures and building up of the team during 1993 and 1994.

  • Administered the Personnel Management, Safety and Hygiene, and Environmental Departments, with responsibility for managing a budget of 2 billion pesetas (12 million euro) and a staff of 1200 workers in five different workplaces.
  • Responsible for negotiating four collective agreements in four different sectors: mining, building, milk production industry and farming activity.
  • Established a computerised system for staff management and an internal communication system.
  • Implemented a work safety plan that led to a 25% reduction in the number and the seriousness of accidents.
  • Designed and implemented the first global plan of training.
  • Likewise responsible for negotiating an agreement on employment regulation affecting 40% of the staff, signed by the company’s trade unions, and carried out without any conflicts.
