Background

One of the biggest constraints of the local IT market is the lack of awareness of the users of the benefits and availability of the products and service. Despite strong demand, and available IT solutions, buyers often fail locate the right product and service providers. This constraint, over the year, has been looming at great height which threatened many infant firms to penetrate the market and established ones to grow. BASIS, being the leading IT Business Member Association in the country, takes the responsibility to answer the problem: Software and IT Service Catalogue 2011, a pragmatic step to aware the local market user of available service of the members and logical sequence of the previous edition.

Like its predecessor Software Product Catalogue 2006, this will be a publication that will showcase the product and services that members offer with detailed functional specification and categorized according to solution domains, industry verticals and technologies. The catalogue will act as a syndicated promotional tool for marketing products and service with the following underlying strategy:

BASIS published the first Software Product Catalogue in Bangladesh 2006 with the vision to address the need for information exchange between prospective software buyers and service providers. The first step towards this syndicated marketing approach included 151 product and services of 88 local software service providers categorized in 17 different business functions.

Product & Service Catalogue 2011 is an endeavor of BASIS to keep the promise of bridging the information gap between the prospective buyer and service providers. This will be a dynamic catalogue that will showcase the products and services with detail specification, features, benefits, product claim, representative clients, service provider’s brief profile and contact address. Additionally, BASIS will take the next step toward digitalization by incorporating an online version uploaded in BASIS website.

One of the major distinctions will be it’s categorization. The products and services will be categorized in two broad parameters: sector/industry specific and functional specific. Sector specific categorization means software will be classified and grouped together according to sector or client industry the software is designed for; i.e. software produced specially for certain sectors will be categorized together.
