Aims of conference

SESSION 1 1 ½ hours

Tackling L’étranger, Un sac de billes, Bonjour Tristesse, Thérèse Desqueyroux

  • Advantages of incorporating e-books in studying the foreign text
  • Getting students to read the text, vocabulary issues, reading strategies
  • Improving knowledge and understanding of the text by harvesting and learning quotations and visuals covering the text
  • Developing understanding of a) the narrative b) characters c) themes
  • Exploiting complex moral issues/dilemmas to develop discussion skills
  • Integrating language skills with literature study
  • Planning and writing the essay for your board (sentence, paragraph and essay level)
  • Assessment for Learning techniques for self/peer evaluation

COFFEE BREAK

SESSION 2 1 ½ hours

Continuation of previous followed by practical session

  • Practice ICT techniques which underpin some of the approaches covered
  • Work in groups to practise techniques for delivery essay/oral preparation

LUNCH

SESSION 3 2 hours

Using film, vocational content and other up to date cultural material to encourage students to continue with their language

  • Developing better self-knowledge, self-evaluation and independence in students
  • Vocational approaches to encourages students to engage with the target language
  • Incorporating motivating and appropriate films into your programme of study
