TITLE: COMPUTER SUPPORT TECHNICIAN

Supervisor: Central Services Director

Scope of Responsibility:

Provide a wide scope of computer, data and telecommunications support in a large network environment. Provide technical support on a variety of hardware and software systems. Resolve hardware, software, data and telecommunication problems. Exercise initiative and resourcefulness when interpreting established policies, goals and objectives. Participate in staff meetings and perform administrative and other duties as required.

Typical Duties:

Provide technical support and resolve hardware/software and data/telecommunication problems.

Perform departmental standard operating procedures such as track inventory, place orders, assist with accounts payable, create technical, helpdesk and end-user documentation, perform technical audits, back-up and recovery procedures, etc. Maintain familiarity with emerging technologies to provide recommendations for system enhancements and improved services. Perform needs assessment for assigned projects and make recommendations to the Central Services Director. Maintain positive working relationship with county personnel to assure that the functions of the Central Services Department are performed in a manner consistent with sound public relations techniques. Participate in department meetings and perform administrative and other duties as required.

Knowledge and Skills:

Possess knowledge and understanding of complex LAN/WAN technologies and current hardware and software systems. Have experience and working knowledge with Microsoft and other enterprise software applications. Have the ability to work both independently and as a team member and be detail oriented, flexible and work proficiently under pressure. Have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff at all organizational levels and with the public. Be able to communicate both verbally and in writing sufficient to exchange or convey information and to give instruction and receive work direction.

Qualifications Required:

Requires knowledge of the field of assignment sufficient to perform thoroughly and accurately the full scope of responsibility as illustrated by the above job description. Two years of technical training in Computer Science. Work experience may be substituted for formal training.

Desired Qualifications :

Experience in Windows XP, Office XP, Windows 2000/2003 Server, Exchange 2003, and web development applications. A motivated self-starter who possesses excellent organizational skills and is committed to developing knowledge. Uses technology to continually learn and share knowledge with team members and enhance service delivery.

Physical Demands and Environment:

The working environment for the Computer Support Technician is primarily in an office setting; however individual will be expected to travel to County off-site locations and to attend meetings, conferences, seminars and other job related activities; subject to on-call, call out and call back. The duties are generally sedentary but also require, standing, walking, maintaining balance, climbing, stairs/inclines, kneeling, bending, stooping, crouching, reaching, pulling, twisting; requires a sense of touch, finger dexterity, ability to grip with fingers and hands, and to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and /or 25 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Requires ability to operate a passenger vehicle, work alone; ability to discern voice conversation, to see with close, far, side vision with depth perception.
