Revision Date: September 7, 2007
Summary
This procedure will explain the steps required to move System Manager Software (SMS3000) v 3.3.2.3 to a new computer and upgrade to SMSPE v 4.0 SU2. This procedure includes upgrading GFX and moving the Matrikon OPC option.
Resolution
Server A (Existing)
Back-up the sms_system and sms_history databases using SMSDBTool
Shut down SMS (client and server) completely.
· Close all remote clients that may be connected on other computers.
· Close all other applications that are accessing SMS (such as Excel).
Launch SMSDBTools.exe and select “SMS” from the application menu
Click on “Connect” button for SMSDBTool to connect to the database.
Click on “Backup History” and “Backup System” buttons
Close SMSDBTool application
Open Windows Explorer. Expand your tree to the default location c:\MSSQL2000\MSSQL$SMS3000\Data. Rename the backup databases by adding a “.3323” to the backup file name so that you will know they are version 3.3.2.3 databases. (ie…sms_system.bak.3323 and sms_history.bak.3323)
Use Matrikon OPC Server Explorer to save the Matrikon OPC XML configuration file (File>Save As>filename.XML)
Note: XML configuration file will contain all Matrikon OPC groups and tags
Note: This may NOT be available for Matrikon OPC version 1.0
Copy each file below and paste to a backup location other than the present hard drive and keep these files in a secured storage to be moved to Server B.

**Note: This may NOT be available for Matrikon OPC version 1.0
Launch SMS3000 server and client(s) in order to resume normal operation
Server B (New)
Do NOT place server onto Domain until AFTER installation
Create Local Admin account with a password (Skip this step if account exists)
Note: SMS will not install if windows password is blank
· Add the Local Admin account to IIS_WPG group (Windows 2003 only)
· Log onto server using this local admin account
Install Windows Components Pre-Requisites as per the SMS 4.0 SU1 User’s Guide
Note: Windows Installation CD may be required (i386 folder)
· Application Server console (Windows 2003 Server Only)
· ASP.NET (Windows 2k3 Server Only)
· Enable Network COM+ Access (Windows 2003 Server Only)
· Internet Information Services (IIS)
· Message Queuing
Verify ASP.NET and Active Server Pages are set to “Allowed” (Windows 2003 Server Only)
· Start>All Programs>Administrative Tools> Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager
· Expand the Local Computer
· Highlight Web Service Extensions
· On the right hand side window pane, set ASP.net and Active Server Pages to “Allow”
Install Microsoft updates if internet connection is available (Use Microsoft updates not Windows updates to update all Microsoft software)
· Do NOT install IE7
Install SMS SMS-3000 v3.3.2.3
Install SMS-3000 v.3.3
Note: Refer to Chapter 2 of SMS-3000 version 3.3 Setup Guide
Install GFX-1000 v.3.3
Install Optional Device Types if applicable. (same as installed on the original server)
Install SMS-3000 v 3.3.2.3 Upgrade
· Run Disk 1 to upgrade from v.3.3 to v.3.3.2
· Run Disk 2 to upgrade from v.3.3.2 to v.3.3.2.3
Update Microsoft SQL-2000 to SP3a or higher
Download and extract SQL2KSP3.exe or SQL2000-KB884525-SP4-x86-ENU.EXE from http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=290211
Run the Setup.bat script (default location C:\SQL2KSP3a
NoteIn order to install database components from a network share, you must first do one of the following:
Setup displays a dialog box that prompts you for information, such as whether you want to use SQL Server Authentication or Windows Authentication.
· If you choose SQL Server Authentication, you must supply the Setup program with the password for the sa login.
· If you choose Windows Authentication, you must be running the Setup program while logged on to Windows using a Windows login account. This login account must be a part of the sysadmin fixed server role for the SMS-3000 instance of SQL Server 2000 you are upgrading.
The Setup program then performs the following tasks:
· Displays an Authentication Mode dialog box if it detects that the installation is using Mixed Mode Authentication with a blank password for the sa login. Leaving the sa login password blank provides users with easy administrative access to SQL Server or Desktop Engine and is not recommended; protect your systems by enforcing an sa password or by using Windows Authentication.
· Displays an SA Password Warning dialog box if it detects a blank password for the sa login. Although you can continue your installation with a blank password for the sa login by explicitly choosing to ignore the recommendation and continue Setup, a blank password poses a security risk and is not recommended. This dialog is displayed regardless of the authentication mode you use.
Note:This password change is made immediately; even if Setup fails, the password is still changed.
Copy all the files listed below from server A to server B and paste them into their respective folders.
SMS Data Object / Location* / File Extensions1 / System Database / C:\MSSQL2000\MSSQL$SMS3000\Data\ / .bak.3323
2 / History Database / C:\MSSQL2000\MSSQL$SMS3000\Data\ / .bak.3323
3 / Archived Data / C:\SMS-3000\Database\History / .bak
4 / Waveforms / C:\SMS-3000\Export\ / .cfg, .dat
5 / Customized Tables / C:\SMS-3000\Tables\ / .PLTables
6** / Graphical Drawings / C:\SMS-3000\Drawings\ / .gfx
7 / Backgrounds / C:\SMS-3000\Drawings\Backgrounds\ / .wmf
8 / Historical Reports / C:\SMS-3000\Reports\ / .html, .jpeg, .rpt., .peg,
9 / Workspaces / C:\SMS-3000\ / .wks
10 / OPC XML configuration file / C:\Program Files\Matrikon\OPC\Common / .xml
*Note: All locations listed are the default locations provided by SMS upon initial installation. These locations may have been changed depending upon the customer’s requirements.
**Note: GFX links have to be remapped if drawings folder location on Server B is different than that of Server A.
Rename the SMS-3000 v3.3.2.3 databases (remove “3323” from name) to sms_system.bak and sms_history.bak on server B.
Note: default location c:\MSSQL2000\MSSQL$SMS3000\Data
Detach the current SMS System and History database with the SMSDB tool.
Using Windows Explorer, Expand your tree to the default location c:\MSSQL2000\MSSQL$SMS3000\Data. Rename the sms_system_data.mdf, sms_system_log.ldf, sms_history_data.mdf, and the sms_history_log.ldf by adding the text “.3323blank” to each of the filename. (i.e.… sms_system.mdf.3323blank, sms_history.mdf.3323blank, sms_system.ldf.3323blank and sms_history.ldf.3323blank)
Use the “Restore System” and “Restore History” button in the SMSDBtool to restore the backup databases. This step will create new databases in the data folder. (sms_system_data.mdf, sms_system_log.ldf, sms_history_data.mdf, and sms_history_log.ldf)
Run SMS Admin Utility and Reboot the server
Note: Running the Admin Utility will sync the DCOM accounts.
The user account and password selected here is set as the account to use when running each of the applications associated with the following GUIDS:
