Background: Mayre Rasmussen was a pioneer in the field of international business law. She was one of the first women to break into the international business law practice at a major international law firm (Coudert Brothers). Following her work in private practice, she went on to successes in corporate law departments of two different companies in the San Francisco Bay area. She was one of the first women to achieve a major leadership position in the Section of International Law and Practice. She was also a mentor to many of the past and current leaders of the Section, but especially women coming into the Section and the ABA. She was one of the founders of the Women's Interest Network, the very successful Section of International Law committee, which primarily focuses on the promotion and preservation of the rights and interests of women globally, but also supports women’s engagement in the international practice of law.

Eligibility: The candidate must be an attorney, but there are no additional restrictions on nominations. This is a non-monetary, honorary award to the individual selected for their outstanding contribution to the advancement of women in international law.

Presentation: The award ispresented periodically although not necessarily annually.

Criteria & Selection Process: This award seeks to recognize lawyers who have demonstrated a career-long commitment to advancing career opportunities for women in international law. In a brief statement, please tell us how your nominee has achieved professional excellence in fields involving international law, who are recognized by their peers as having encouraged women to engage in international law careers or enabled women lawyers to attain international law job positions from which they were excluded historically, or advanced opportunities for women in international law. In selecting potential recipients, preference will be given to Section of International Law members, although this is not a requirement. When a non-member is selected as the recipient, the Section will give the non-member recipient a one-year complimentary Section membership.

After collecting nomination statements, the Award Committee will create a shortlist of candidates. If your nominee is shortlisted, the Committee will follow-up with you for additional details about your nominee and will request up to two letters of support from other individuals.
