10. 2018 Town of Weymouth Scholarship Awards

Any Town of Weymouth resident seeking education beyond high school at a college or institution deemed accredited by the Scholarship Committee is eligible to apply. For example, high school seniors, citizens currently enrolled in a college program or citizens planning to return to school for additional training. In the interest of fairness, the one exception is that those applicants who have already received two awards will not be considered. Since 1991, the committee has awarded over $500,000 in renewable scholarships. Scholarship applicants are judged on community involvement, academic achievement, character and financial need.

Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is made possible by community members coming forward to create a coffee mug and glass with all proceeds benefiting Weymouth High School students. There will be multiple $500 scholarships awarded. An essay on a life changing event that you (or someone you know) have experienced is required.

3.  B. Davis Scholarship

The Student Award Search Aid was created to help students search for scholarship opportunities. By visiting http://www.studentawardsearch.com/scolarships.htm

you will be able to search for scholarships and apply for the B. Davis Scholarship. The winner of this scholarship will receive $1000. To apply for this scholarship you will need to write an essay of less than 1000 words and explain the three characteristics of leadership you value most. Discuss why you believe that these traits are so important and how you feel that they are developed in an individual.

4.  The Abacus Scholarship

This scholarship sweepstakes is open to all students that are U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents, enrolled or accepted for enrollment in full or part time programs of study. Every entry is granted the same chance to win a $500 cash award.

5.  Henry David Thoreau Scholarship

The Henry David Thoreau scholarship is awarded to outstanding high school seniors who are ready to meet the challenges of the interdisciplinary field of environmental studies. Win up to a $20,000 tuition scholarship for environmental studies.

6.  Janice M. Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc.

This scholarship is awarded to a high school senior that will be attending a four year US college or university, full time. The student must be a US citizen or permanent resident with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and demonstrate leadership abilities through participating in community services or other extra-curricular activities. There will be three to four scholarships available on a national level in the amount of $2500.

7.  2018 John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest

The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation invites U.S. high school students to write an essay on an act of political courage by a U.S. elected official who served during or after 1917. First place winner receives $10,000. Second place winner receives $1000 and there are up to five $500 awards.

8.  AFL-CIO Scholarship Awards Program

The 60th Annual Scholarship Awards Program is available to all graduating seniors in high schools throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts who are seeking higher education. In order to be eligible for the scholarship, students will be required to take the Labor History exam consisting of 30 “multiple choice” questions and one essay question with a response of 250-500 words. The exam will be administered after school on Thursday, February 7, 2018.

Students interested in taking the exam should pick up an application in maroon guidance and submit it to Ms. Clancy in maroon guidance by Friday, December 15, 2017. Students can also complete an application on line but must submit a copy to Ms. Clancy.

9.  Grand Lodge of Massachusetts Order Sons of Italy in America Charitable and Educational Trust

Twenty scholarships at a maximum of $1000 will be awarded. Applicants must be a member of the Senior Class of any secondary school. The scholarships shall be awarded on the following basis: Scholastic Ability, Character and Activities. Scholarship consideration shall be given only to applicants planning to attend four year, degree granting colleges and universities (including vocational and/or technical) approved by the Scholarship Commission and accredited by the State board of Education of the commonwealth of Massachusetts or corresponding agencies of other states.

11. 2018 Fallon Ambulance Scholarship Program

EMT training can lead to several career paths as well as provide a great foundation for your college career. Selected recipients will receive full sponsorship of EMT training at an Accredited EMT training institute that is designated by Fallon Ambulance Service.
