There are at least 50,000 patients with one of chronic lung diseases. Moreover, approximately 20% of the population suffers from asthma or one of the allergies.

SLOVENIAN RESPIRATORY SOCIETY

SRS is one of the professional societies of the Slovenian Medical Association (SMA) and is an organisation of pulmonologists who associate in order to promote health protection, professional and scientific practices, foster medical ethics and protect the interests of their profession.

Activities

·  Co-operation with hospitals (such as University Clinic of Respiratory and Allergic Diseases Golnik), other medical and related associations as well as medical faculties (the Faculty of medicine in Ljubljana, especially its Department of Internal Medicine) in the country.

·  Organisation of professional and scientificmeetings (congresses, symposia, courses, exhibitions and meetings).

·  Advancement of medical education.

·  Fostering of medical ethics.

·  Cooperation in the development of health care network in the field of pneumology.

·  Professional advice and expertise on bills and acts concerning the organisation of health service and public health and environmental protection.

·  Cooperation and participation in international organisations (such as European Respiratory Society).

Educational activities

·  Co-organiser of congresses, symposia and annual meetings of SRS members.Organiser of postgraduate courses and seminars.

·  Co-organiser of practical courses in respiratory medicine.

·  SRS is open to physicians/specialists in respiratory medicine who live and work in Slovenia.

·  SRS currently has 136 members.

·  Some of the SRS members are registered as members of the ERS.

·  National delegate of Slovenia is Nadja Triller MD.
