Purpose of job:
· To link with community sport opportunities in order to widen the offer for students;
· To raise student participation in sport and reduce the drop out of young people from sport, especially at 16 to 18 years old
Responsibilities
A DELIVERY AND DEVELOPMENT
· Provide additional and regular sports opportunities for all College students i.e. sport clubs and sports activities· Successfully promote the College’s sports offer to students
· Increase student participation in sport in accordance with the targets associated with the Sport England funding relating to the post
· Maintain regular student participation in sport
· Increase staff participation in sport
· Maintain regular staff participation in sport
· Gather relevant intelligence to understand the sports needs of the College’s students and develop activity to meet the identified need
· Ensure facility time is available for additional and regular recreational sporting activities.
· Facilitate the recruitment, management and deployment of a small team of student sports leaders to deliver a wider student sport offer.
· Complete Sport England’s monitoring and evaluation reports as required.
B COORDINATION
· Access and coordinate the implementation of National Governing Body, NGB, participation programmes/offers for FE students.· Be the key point of entry into College for community sports partners, connecting them with other key College staff where appropriate.
· Build and sustain effective partnerships with NGBs, the local county sports partnership and other community sports providers.
· Access programme opportunities available through Sport England’s Strategy such as Sportivate, Sport Makers and Satellite Clubs.
· Create and maintain effective and active links with sports clubs in the community – widening the offer available to all students.
· Connect to existing opportunities available in the local area and signpost students to these.
· Facilitate coaching and/or delivery of sports sessions and activities.
· Be an advocate/champion for sports development within the College.
· Share good practice with other College Sport Makers locally and nationally.
C PLANNING AND STRATEGY
· Represent College sport on community sport groups, where appropriate.
· Work with schools to understand what interventions and programmes work for students progressing into College; and identify and deploy sports volunteers moving into FE.
· Link to the School Games model to access informal competition programmes for students.
D GENERAL
· To safeguard children and vulnerable adults from harm and to report concerns in accordance with the College’s internal referral arrangements.· To deal professionally with colleagues and external partners as required.
· To ensure the confidentiality and security of all the College’s documentation and information.
· To attend training/refresher courses and meetings as required by the Line Manager
· To co-operate and take part in the College’s appraisal scheme.
· To carry out other such appropriate duties that maybe reasonably required to successfully carry out the role.
