STUDENT ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

Students Helping Students--Past, Present, and Future

Mission: To promote pride in Monmouth University, to build student awareness of

campus tradition, and to strengthen the bond between former and current students.

Proposal: To create an organization of student leaders to follow the above mission and be the campus liaisons between current undergraduates and alumni. The members of this organization will be actively recruited and selected. They will assume the role of student-leaders and campus role models.

Outcome: The desired outcome is to create a campus environment that respects and appreciates the fact that the relationship between Monmouth University and the individual is ongoing throughout each person’s lifetime. Graduation is only the beginning of this journey.

Background: Members of the Student Alumni Association (SAA) are an integral component of the Monmouth University Alumni Association. The priorities of the Student Alumni Association are to increase student participation through strengthening the ties to the university and to develop current students as future alumni.

The Student Alumni Association is part of a student network with over 100 groups on campuses nationwide. At Monmouth University, it is composed of selected students whose main purpose is to promote pride and tradition on campus, and to strengthen the bonds between alumni and current students. Responsibilities include participating in homecoming and Reunion weekend events and acting as student hosts for alumni events.

Membership to the SAA is limited. The selection process will include a written application, an interview and a review by administrative staff and current members of the organization.

Responsibilities of an SAA member are:

1) Completion of a one-time application and interview process.

2) Commitment to attend monthly meetings.

3) Participation in at least one SAA committee.

4) Commitment and dedication to the purpose and goals of the Student Alumni Association.

5) Participation in at least two SAA events/projects per semester in addition to homecoming.

6) Absence from two monthly or committee meetings without a legitimate excuse and/or failure to live up to the commitment made will result in dismissal from the committee and loss of membership
