but not later than March 31, 2010.
Please note that the Title of your presentation needs to be submitted to the TRFA office not later than February 26, 2010 so it can be posted on the meeting website.
The information below provides instruction for submitting technical paper and general presentation abstracts.
TITLE: The title should clearly and concisely tell what the presentation is about. Choose title terms that are specific. Ideally, the title should be an ultra-brief abstract.
BYLINE: Every abstract should have a byline containing the names and affiliations of those who have made substantial contribution to the work. If more than one author is listed, the one who will make the presentation at the meeting should be indicated by an asterisk.
ABSTRACT: The abstract (2 or 3 sentences) should be an informative, brief summary that includes the principal points of the work reported in the presentation. It should reflect accurately the content of the paper or presentation. The ideal abstract will briefly state the problem or purpose of the study or presentation, indicate the approach, accurately summarize the principle findings and point out the major conclusions.
REMEMBER: The purpose of the abstract is to allow the reader to determine what kind of information is contained in the paper and/or presentation and to identify the key features. The abstract is not intended as a substitute for the article or presentation itself, but must contain enough information for the reader to ascertain his interest in the topic. It should be concise, self-contained, and representative of the technical content of the paper or presentation. Terms used should be meaningful to the reader.
BIOGRAPHY:
Along with the abstract, please submit a brief (100 words or less) personal biography of the person making the presentation. The biography should include such information as education and current job responsibilities as well as past experience, honors or awards received, and professional society memberships or offices.
Please provide complete contact information including company address, phone number and also a cell phone number where you can be reached.
Abstract and Biography may be emailed to Kathy Fatz at TRFA, . Forms for providing this information are also attached if you prefer.

WRITTEN PRESENTATION REQUIREMENTS/GUIDELINESFOR TECHNICAL PAPER PRESENTERS
GENERAL
A. You must submit an electronic copy of your technical paper (in MS Word®) and an electronic copy of your Powerpoint® presentation to the TRFA office no later than July 19, 2010. Electronic formats may be emailed directly to .
B. THE PAPER SHOULD NOT BE OF A COMMERCIAL NATURE.
Do not use company names and trade names other than those belonging to your own company. Limit use of your own company name or trade name to a one-time use. This will make papers less commercial and of more interest to the audience.
C. PAPER ORGANIZATION AND INSTRUCTIONS
The paper should be organized in the following order: cover page, main body, references, appendices and authors’ biographies.
Use one inch margins on all sides.
Text should be in black, using 12 point type and single-spaced.
If the quality of your submission is unacceptable, you will be asked to resubmit your paper but the resubmission must be received by the deadline of three weeks before the conference presentation date. Papers submitted in an unacceptable format or paper received after the deadline will not be accepted for presentation or publication.
COVER PAGE
. Accompanying cover page should list author's name, title of article, title of author, affiliation, full address, telephone number, email address, and date of presentation.
Each cover page MUST also include the following:
"Presented at a meeting of the Thermoset Resin Formulators Association at the Hyatt Regency San Antonio Hotel in San Antonio, Texas September 13 through 14, 2010.”
This paper is presented by invitation of TRFA. It is publicly distributed upon request by the TRFA to assist in the communication of information and viewpoints relevant to the thermoset industry. The paper and its contents have not been reviewed or evaluated by the TRFA and should not be construed as having been adopted or endorsed by the TRFA.”
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
Acknowledgements should appear at the end of the text preceding the reference.
TABLES AND FIGURES
Tables and figures should be placed on the page where they are first referenced.
REFERENCES
If you use only four or five references, use footnotes. If there are more than four or five, use a list of references at the end of the paper. In this case, each reference should be numbered serially, and in the text these numbers should appear in brackets or with superscript numerals.
BIBLIOGRAPHY
Quotations and references to other published material should be correlated in the text. To do this, use numbers in parentheses. Each reference should consist of the following: name of publication, author(s), date and number of publication and page numbers.
APPENDIX
Certain material in mathematical papers such as equations and formulae may better be put in a separate appendix at the end of the paper. Other related but nonessential material such as description of apparatus may be included in the appendix.
Please direct any questions to Kathy Fatz, Association Manager at TRFA, Phone: (630) 942-6596, Email: .
ORAL PRESENTATION GUIDELINESEach technical paper presenter is allotted 25 minutes, plus 5 minutes for questions and answers; other program participants are allotted more or less time as deemed by the subject matter and meeting schedule. The following hints may be of use:
· The volume of material presented should fit the allotted time, when delivered slowly and distinctly.
· Emphasize the conclusions you wish to present, rather than an elaborate introduction.
· Do not use company names and trade names other than those belonging to your own company. Limit use of your own company name or trade name to a one-time use. This will make papers less commercial and of more interest to the audience.
· Please do not include any pricing information in your presentation. This would be a violation of anti-trust rules.
· Speak to the entire audience, to be sure those in the rear can hear.
· Stand erect, with your head up, and project your words clearly.
· DO NOT READ your paper - limited notes to refresh your memory are best.
· Don't leave a slide on the screen when you have finished discussing it. A blank screen between slides will not distract your audience from your presentation.
· Remember to repeat the questions during the question and answer period immediately following your presentation. This will be helpful to the audience and give you time to think about the answer.
PRINCIPLES AND RULES FOR SLIDE/VISUAL PRESENTATIONSTo improve the quality and uniformity of the presentations, we request that you not use overheads and encourage you to utilize computer-generated presentations.
Please review these presentation guidelines to help assure the best results. Nothing will ruin a well-prepared paper faster than a poor visual presentation.
Note: The first slide of your presentation must include the following credit:
“Presented at a meeting of the Thermoset Resin Formulators Association at the Hyatt Regency San Antonio Hotel in San Antonio, Texas September 13 through 14, 2010.
Powerpoint® Slides/Visuals are only useful if they:
a. Contain only enough information to illustrate one major idea.
b. Are visible even in the last row of a large auditorium.
c. Show something that can't be explained as well without the slide.
d. Contain tables, which illustrate a point. (Avoid lengthy tables, which are for journal print when they may be fully examined.)
e. Number usually one per minute of talk, i.e., 10 slides in 10 minutes.
Helpful guidelines include:
PREPARATION Ideally work with an expert in the preparation of your slide/visual material. (Amateur slides never look good in a large audience.)
LAYOUT Keep simple, with plenty of open space. Space between lines should be at least the height of a capital letter.
TITLE Five words or less. Title should supplement, not duplicate, slide data.
MESSAGE Limit to seven lines or less with no more than seven words per line. Use a common typeface at a size that's readable from the back of room.
COLOR Use for emphasis only. Use a dark-colored background - it makes for better legibility. White lettering on blue (Diazo blue) background achieves excellent legibility. Too many colors distract and are poorly projected in a large audience.
TABLES Don't crowd the slide/visual. Two or more simple slides/visuals are better than one complicated one. You want to emphasize a point - you may even want to circle the salient numbers
TYPE The use of horizontal slides are preferred. Vertical slides are typically cut off on the screen, especially if there is no zoom on a projector. Switching from vertical to horizontal can be very annoying, so try to use only horizontal slides.
ILLUSTRATING Simplify as much as possible. Viewing time is limited.
GRAPHS Significance of data can be grasped more quickly in graph form than in tabular form. Use rounded figures and sparing in the use of captions.
BRING A CD OR MEMORY STICK WITH A COPY OF YOUR PRESENTATION WITH YOU.
PRESENTATION:
a. Rehearse your presentation several times so that you will be familiar with the sequence and timing of the slides/visuals.
b. Insert duplicate slides/visuals if you need to refer to the same slide at several different times in your talk.
