Era II: Classical Civilizations and Rise of Religious Traditions, 1000 b.c. (b.c.e.) to 500 a.d. (c.e.)
By the end of this unit, students will demonstrate knowledge of ancient river valley civilizations including those of Mesopotamia, Egypt, the Indus River Valley, and China and the civilizations of the Hebrews, Phoenicians, and Nubians by:
1. Being able to locate these civilizations and place them in the correct time periods.
2. Describing the development of social, political, and economic patterns – including slavery.
3. Explaining the development of religious traditions in these socieites.
4. Describing the origins, beliefs, traditions, customs, and spread of Judaism.
5. Explaining the development of language and writing.
By the end of today’s block, you should be able to:
1. Explain the basic ideas of the Ancient Chinese Civilization.

Part I – Chapter 2, Section 4 Quiz (10 minutes) Individual
Take this quiz assessing your understanding of the information you read in Chapter 2, Section 4 about Ancient China. You may use your outline you completed for homework. DO NOT TURN IN YOUR OUTLINE.
Part II – Ancient China Map (15 minutes) Individual
Use your textbook to help you to fill out the map on Ancient China. Make sure you label ALL parts correctly. If you have access to colored pencils, you can also use those – but this is NOT required.
Part III – Ancient China Comparison Packet (60 minutes) Individual
Using your Chapter 2, Section 4 outline AND the textbook, fill out the Ancient China chart. Be VERY thorough and your answers should be VERY detailed. You will first add in information about China and then you will need to add in information COMPARING China to Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Indus. Make sure you have MANY comparisons – this will help you GREATLY on your upcoming Unit II exam.
Part IV – Begin Studying (Time Remaining) Individual
Use any time remaining time to begin studying for your Unit II (River Valley Civilizations) exam.

The following assessment will be given on Monday, October 15:
1. Study for your Unit II exam covering the River Valley Civilizations – Chapter 1, Section 3 AND ALL of Chapter 2.
