The Ken Bower Teacher Cadet Scholarship

Ken Bower, associate professor in the Department of Elementary and Early Childhood Education at the College of Charleston, died in 2002. During his career, he was avidly committed to public school students and the adults who work with them. When the Teacher Cadet Program began in 1986, Dr. Bower was asked to develop the first full-scale curriculum.

Information

Thanks to the success of the silent auctions held at annual professional development conferences, CERRA is pleased to offer

SIX $500 scholarships

to help cover college expenses for the 2014-2015 school year.

Who can apply: High school seniors who participated in the Teacher Cadet Programand plan to attend a South Carolina college or university to become a teacher are welcome to apply. Teacher Cadet sites may send applications for all Teacher Cadets who wish to apply.

How to apply: Complete theenclosed application, make two (2) copies, and attach a sealed official high school transcript.

The original and two (2)copies of the full application must be returned to Charlene Brown, CERRA, Stewart House at Winthrop University, Rock Hill, SC 29733.

Applications must be postmarked no later than

March 31, 2014.

The selected scholarship recipients will be announced by May 9, 2014 by letter. News of recipients will also be posted online at

Disbursement of funds:

The scholarship funds will be disbursed directly to the college/university in August 2014.

  2. Secure one recommendation from your Teacher Cadet instructor and one other instructor of your choice (forms provided);
  3. Complete your essay on the sheets provided;
  4. Attach a sealed copy of your official high school transcript, including verification of your class rank and GPR/GPA; and
  5. Return THE ORIGINAL and TWO (2) COPIES of your complete application packet to Charlene Brown, CERRA, Stewart House at Winthrop University, Rock Hill, SC 29733.
  6. The entire packet must be postmarked on or before MARCH 31, 2014.
