President’s Report
Hello Members,
Our next AGM has been set for Sunday 28th October.
As per the Rules of your Club, positions that must be voted on are President, Secretary, Greens Director, Vice Captain and one Committee member.
Also because of relocating, our Treasurer is forced to resign.
Our Captains position has not been filled for the last six months and with the regrettable resignation of Bruce Cook who was our House Director, there is room for another committee person.
As you can see, this creates a crisis in the Club and it is proving difficult to attract and retain suitable people who are prepared to help manage the
$1 million –plus turnover of your Club. If any member feels able to assist, could you please make it known to Staff or any member of the few management committee members left.
The Road – This last rain event has pushed the road into an embarrassment.
Thanks to the efforts of Mick, Peter & Co as well as grounds staff the life of the road has been extended, but is now to the point beyond patching up.
A number of initiatives will be announced to provide the approximately $100,000 required to replace and provide drainage.
The cart shed is progressing well, contracts for accommodation are being finalized- prices have been set at a very reasonable level and shed will be completed within budget. Ahuge thanks particularly to David Wiltshire,David Battilana, Ian Anderson and any other volunteers who have helped.
We are deep in discussion with National Broadband Network to construct a tower of similar design to the Telstra Tower. We have reached agreement on
$ 10,000.00 (plus gst) per year rental with 2.5 percent increases. The tower will be 6 metres higher and the site will be 12m X 7m behind the third tee – back to the rockblock wall. It will provide wireless broadband to the district.
My Bitchy Moment. Members and social players are continuing to bring alcohol purchased elsewhere onto our licensed premises.
We are checked regularly and heavy fines apply to us and the offenders.
This practice will not be tolerated and we have demonstrated our resolve to take whatever action is necessary. Any person breaching the Liquor Act will be dealt with in the most severe fashion as their actions threaten our very existence.
This is not a threat but a promise.
I ask that members report any evidence that people are bringing alcohol onto the course.
Pineapple Patch. Since meeting with John Quinn(The Developer) on March 30th, at which time we made and agreed to five changes to the contract and at my insistence,I am not prepared to sign until he quantifies his promises(e.g. put a price on what he is going to spend on the clubhouse) , no contact has been made. If the development ever eventuates, the developer has agreed in writing to reimburse the club of any monies spent on the road when he would have done this job in the conditions of the contract.
GOOD NEWS. The Club has been very busy with many golf events, functions and a solid increase in social players.
It is pleasing to note the change in attitude to social players as there has not been any complaints of members interfering. The staff have handled the increase in workload with humour and goodwill.
Congratulations to all concerned.
I hope to see as many members as possible at the AGM which allows you to judge our performance.
Good Golfing !

Around the Course – July 2012
Greens
Between now and October, preparations will commence prior to the complete refurbishment of #3 Green.
A temporary green will be installed short of the current green.
It is proposed to completely rebuild the green, including new drainage, new irrigation, new sub base and new turf. It is envisaged that this work will be completed in October, prior to the “growing season”.
During the works, the area will be fenced off and access to #4 tee will be temporarily relocated. Access to the work site for trucks etc. will be from the old railway line.
Course Drainage Works and Cart Tracks
The works program on the cart/buggy tracks has been completed for this financial year with only minor drainage works still to be completed.
It is disappointing to see club members disregarding signs advising “No Carts” and directional signs.
Where cart tracks have been built, please use them, park on the tracks and not on the grass nearer the green.
Thanks
Dave Caulton
Greens Director
Ladies Highlights
Hello to all, July is nearly over and hopefully so is the rain.
What have the ladies been up to since May? We have played the CCC Open and did Mother Nature turn it off that day, but the ladies soldiered on in the hurricane conditions.
We have had three teams qualify for the CQ 4 Ball which will be played at the Mercure September 30th, those being M.Burns/B.MacFarlane, R.Hennig/N.Leonard and E.Stewart/S.Hocking, well done and good luck for September.
The weather held for the three rounds of the Ladies Yeppoon Closed championships. I would like to thank all of the trophy donors and raffle donors for this event. I would also like to put out a big thank you to the male volunteers and the two lovely ladies Ruby Goldsmith and Colleen Oates that donated their time on making the three days run smoothly.
Our gross winners were A grade-K.King, B grade -W.Orgill C grade -J.Bowden. Gross R/U A grade – P.Bala-Daniels, B grade – B.Dann, C grade – J.Conaghan. Well done to all the ladies that competed.
Seven Ladies with not much confidence travelled down to Gladstone to play invitation pennants, to their surprise they came away with 6 wins and a square bringing us from second last to second, well done girls.
We have had young ladies compete at our course for the Junior Jug, and no doubt we will see some of them turn professional in the near future. A big round of applause to Betty Dann who was in charge of organising Caddies for the girls, and a big thank you to the caddies that volunteered their time.
Our last game before the rain came was a single stableford with the trophy kindly donated by LaurelleMossop. With the rain falling and not giving up, our Ladies Open wasn’t looking good for Friday the thirteenth, and in the end it really was a black Friday with us having to postpone it to the following Friday. Never mind the sun was shining and we soldiered on. The Yeppoon Ladies did quite well, the overall champion was S.Antcliff. A Grade gross – V.McClelland, B grade gross – S.Murphy, C Grade gross – J.Bowden. Congratulations to all of those that won and well done to everyone who participated. I think a good day was had by all. Another big thank you to the gentleman that volunteered their time making the day run smoothly. And a big thanks to the raffle donors for the day – CJ Hairdressing, Floral Solutions, E.Stewart, K.Burchardt, V.McClelland and family.
Our last game for July was a Standard Scratch with Wendy Orgill kindly donating the trophy for the day.
Up and coming events: Sunday 29th, Monday 30th and Tuesday 31st the club will be holding the ladies CQ Open and foursomes. Good luck to all ladies participating.
Friday 3rd August is the Gracemere Open; we are sitting tied with Rockhampton on pennants points, so play well ladies do us proud.
That is all for now
Yours in Golf
