Provider Tipsfor Viewing Scanned Documents

  1. Opening the Patient’s Chart

From the Schedule tab, you can select the patient’s name on the schedule and right click to select the tab to open or double click on the patient’s name to open to chart to the Existing Orders Profile.

  1. Selecting the Historical Chart Visit

1a. Click on the Documents tab

1b. Select the “By Date” radio button

1c. Double click on the January 1, 1970 folder (visit date)

1d.Select the document titled “Old Chart.”

Your site’s prefix will be indicated as CH for Chesapeake Peds, PD for Pediatric Diagnostic Center KD for King’s Daughters, the main hospital.

  1. Changing the Search Criteria

2a. Click on the Documents tab

2b.Right click on blue InformationBar and select the Change Search Criteria option.

2c.Select the Filtered By option of Date Range

2d.In the From field, enter the year and 1969 or indicate the historical visit date of 01/01/1970, leave the To date default to the current date.

2c.Click OK

  1. Setting Thumbnails to Default

3a.Click on the Documents tab

3b.Select the scanned image you would like to view.

3c.Click on the Settings button to open the Viewer Configuration window

3d.Click on the Thumbnails tab, select the “Display thumbnails” checkbox.

Setting this option will provide the option to set the thumbnail images to consistently display, making it easier to navigate scanned images.

  1. Setting the Zoom to Easily View Records

Allows you to select the viewing size that best meets your needs.

4a. Click on the Documents tab

4b.Select the scanned image you would like to view

4c.Click on the View button to select the viewing option and size as needed.

  1. Printing Portions of the Scanned Document

You can navigate to a specific page in the scanned file and then select the print option from the scanner-viewing window. This action will open the printer dialogue box.

Print options include:

  • All pages – prints all pages in the document
  • Pages from __ to __ - you can indicate a page number range
  • Selection - will print the item currently selected for viewing

  1. Accessing the Clinical Calculator

By clicking on the toolbar button, you can quickly access the online calculator to work with a variety of pre-defined calculations or to access basic calculator features.

  1. Changing Provider Display to expand and collapse thumbnails.

You can easily expand and collapse the thumbnail view to meet your viewing needs.

When you click on the “>” located to the far right of the displayed image the view will toggle between the image with the thumbnails in view. When selected again, the screen will only display the image.


Setting the Resource Provider

Allows you to automatically show your schedule when you log into PowerChart.

  1. Navigating Page-By-Page

By clicking on the directional arrows, you can advance forward or backwards a page at a time or you can go to the beginning or to the end of the document.

  • You can also use the keyboard to advance through pages displayed by using the Page Up/Page Down keys on the thumbnail view. You must press <Enter> to display the selected page in the image viewer.
