Learn like a CHAMP Chart

In observing what other self-directed and successful students do, I created this system as a visual reminder of the classroom expectations. This is your reminder chart so you know what each level means. Ms. Hammond will use a green leaf to mark the levels of conversation, help, activity, movement, and participation expected.

Individual Work / Group Work / Direct Instruction
Conversation / Your voice level will either be level 0 or 1-Check the CHAMP board to know / Your voice Level 2 will be at a normal Discussion level-(Stay on topic and draw each other back on topic) / Your voice level will be a level 0-Raise hand when you have a question, and respond when called on
Help- if you ask for school supplies from your classmate, do not chatter while you wait for them to find what you need. / Raise hand for help or ask 3 before me (Remember to show Ms. Hammond how the other student helped you). / Ask another group or raise your hand (While waiting, work on tasks you can complete, and no off task chatter) / Raise your hand and listen to other speakers without disruption.(Remember that my clap tells you that chattering ends).
Activity / Make your priority list, and work on your own work. Typically earbuds with your own music allowed. Electronics for school work only! / No earbuds! Electronics for school work only!
If your group finishes early, return to individual work. / No earbuds in ears-
Have notebooks or handouts in front of you, take notes to help you remember instructions/directions.
Movement- move to your seats at the tardy bell. Make sure you have collected all “you will need” supplies as directed on the Screen. / Only move with permission or
use bathroom/drinks with permission
If the “ask 3 before me” is clipped, you may ask a friend for help, but not chatter. / No bathroom passes.
When supplies are needed, send one group member to go get materials.
When group work is complete, members move to desks quietly and without disruption. / No bathroom passes
Do not disrupt the instruction time with shifting desks, tapping pens, or throwing objects.
Participation / Finish each day’s assignments before going back to complete past due work- use instructed voice level / Each member contributes, and politely works together. / Take notes. Raise hand when questions for review are asked. Clarify directions.

Consequences are on the back of this chart

Consequences

Voice levels higher than instructed level will receive a warning first. 2nd and 3rd offenses will mean you will write an action plan and email or call parents and serve detention.

All running and touching will receive detention 1st time and student will call/email home 2nd-3rd. Student will be sent to principal for any physical contact with other students regardless of intentions- accidents are costly and for some students could lead to permanent injury.

Put down your device when tardy bell rings. Using an electronic device for anything other than instructional use will result in your device going to the office. You can retrieve your device from the office at the end of the day, as long as, it’s your first violation. If you have had your device sent to the office before, the school will notify your parents to pick up the device. You will lose the privilege of having a device in my classroom after your second violation.

* Remember to ask Ms. Hammond before you contact a parent, in the case of an emergency or concern.

Off task behavior and blurting during direct instruction will receive a warning for the first offense, and detention there-after. Student will consult with Ms. Hammond on strategies to gain self-control.

Inappropriate language and rude comments will receive a warning and then detention.
