Sponsors must determine the number of potential eligible beneficiaries by racial/ethnic category for the area served. Data concerning the number of potential eligible beneficiaries, along with identification of all sources of the information, must be updated annually and maintained on file for three years. This information may be obtained from census data or public school enrollment data. Information can be found at local library or county government or online at Once at the website enter your zip code, then click GO. The page will populate with information for the zip entered. If the zip code does not provide any results, you may try entering your town or county. Once the information page opens, you will see the words “Popular tables for this geography.” Under that you will find 2010 Census. Then a link for Race and Hispanic or Latino Origin. Click on that link. The fact for this zip code (town or county) will then populate on the page. The chart includes the numbers for RACE. Use the number in the “percent” column (not the number column) to enter the percentages on the lines below, Hispanic or Latino is on the same page; just scroll down a little more until you see HISPANIC OR LATINO. The first line will say 100 (percent) the next line will tell you the percentage of Hispanic or Latinos (of any race) in your area, further down you will see the Not Hispanic or Latino. When adding the percentages for categories – they should equal 100.
