Ref: P2011

1.0 PREAMBLE:

This specification is for the application of a CHEVALINE COVERALL-E Textured Coating System in three or four coats to exterior building surfaces specifically incorporating Harditex or Hardiflex
cellulose-cement cladding. Allowance is made for varying topcoats depending upon surface
requirements and re-coat cycle.

2.0 CLADDING INSTALLATION

2.1 Hardiflex Sheet Cladding:

Hardiflex Sheet Cladding shall be installed in strict accordance with the recommendations and
instructions contained in the Hardies Publication "Exterior Wall Claddings" March 1989, incorporating close butt joints, flexible sealant joints or open joints as appropriate. Care shall be taken to ensure that nailing patterns are maintained, and that sheet edges are not damaged during installation.

Care shall be taken to ensure that all framing members are true and straight in both horizontal and vertical planes. Where sheets are to be continued over stud/frame junctions particularly between floors, care shall be taken to ensure that the horizontal and vertical planes are maintained true across the junction.

2.2 Harditex Sheet Cladding:

Harditex Sheet Cladding shall be installed strictly in accordance with details and instructions contained in the Hardies Publication "Harditex Exterior Cladding System" Care shall be taken to ensure that nailing patterns are maintained, and that sheet edges are not damaged during installation. Care shall be taken to ensure that all framing members are true and straight in both horizontal and vertical planes. Where sheets are to be continued over stud/frame junctions particularly between floors, care shall be taken to ensure that the horizontal and vertical planes are maintained true across the junction.

2.3 Backer Strips:

Backer Strips shall be as detailed in the Hardies Publications and correctly installed at the time of sheet fixing.

3.0 SURFACE PREPARATION AND PRETREATMENT:

3.1 General - Responsibility:

Unless expressly agreed otherwise at time of contract pricing, all work in this section shall be the
responsibility of the Main Contractor, whether carried out by his own staff, other sub-trades or the
Specialist Finishes Sub-Contractor. In the latter case, such preparatory work shall be priced separately from work defined in Sections 4.0 - 5.0 inclusive.

3.2 Sealant Beads:

All sealant beads associated with the cladding system shall be of Tremco Dymeric, Tremco Mono 555, or Silaflex MS. In all cases the sealant beads shall be correctly installed and allowed to cure at least five days prior to commencement of coating application.

3.3 Nailing:

The Contractor shall ensure that all nail fixings are driven flush with the surface.

3.4 Surface Cleaning:

The Contractor shall ensure that all detritus and dust is removed from sheet surfaces prior to handing over to the Specialist Finishes Sub-Contractor.

3.5 Back-Priming:

It is possible that under certain circumstances, back-priming of sheets may be required particularly where it is anticipated heavy condensation or other water can be present on the reverse face of the sheet. In such cases the Contractor shall be responsible for back-priming of sheets prior to their
installation. Such back-priming should be carried out with one coat of an approved acrylic or
polyurethane seal-coat.

3.6 General:

The Specialist Finishes Sub-contractor shall assure himself that the surfaces to be coated are dry and free of contamination before he commences work in any area. He shall also ensure that the cladding surfaces are true and in plane, to his satisfaction. Commencement of coating work on any area shall indicate his acceptance of that surface as satisfactory.

4.0 COATING APPLICATION:

4.1 General:

The system shall be applied in three or four coats as set out below, over appropriately treated sheet joints. The system is a roller applied finish, and some appropriate masking must be carried out prior to commencement of work to avoid roller splatter on adjacent surface.

4.2 Primer:

All surfaces shall be primed with one coat of COVERALL 50/50 Primer applied at approximately 9-10 sqm/litre and allowed to dry.

4.3 Joint Treatment:

All joints in Harditex and Hardiflex Sheets which are to present a flush-jointed appearance shall be jointed with the appropriate SUPERFIL-2 or SUPERFIL/SUPERFLEXX Systems strictly in accordance with the instructions of Equus Industries Ltd., set out in Application Procedure A103 rev. At the same time all nail fixings and imperfections shall be flushed out with the TROWELTEXX Fine flushing coat and the surface allowed to dry at least 24 hours prior to commencement of coating. It is important that all joints are finished/sanded flush as this is a low-profile texture system.

4.4 CHEVALINE COVERALL-E Texture Coat:

The spreading rate achieved will depend upon client requirements as to Texture Finish but will
generally be in the range of 30-36 sqm/20 litre pail (1.5-1.8 sqm/litre). The rolled Texture Coat shall dry overnight before topcoating. Care shall be taken to obtain an even finish when rolling to internal corners.

4.5 Topcoats:

All surfaces to be coated shall receive either:

1. (for eggshell finish)

One (1) double pass spray coat or roller coat of CHEVALINE COVERALL applied at
approximately 4 sqm/litre.

Or

5.3 Approval:

The Specialist Finishes Sub-contractor shall obtain approval from the client/specifier or his
representative before cleaning up and stripping off masking in any area.

6.0 WARRANTY AND MAINTENANCE:

6.1 Maintenance:

COLOURGLAZE. Where major colour change is involved the Manufacturer should be consulted for a specific recommendation.
