SIT Minutes

October 16, 2013

  1. Members Present: Wilburn, C. Gomez, Melissa Trejo, J. Madrid, L. Nava, C. Dunn, Pineda, P. Ochoa, Alarcon, K. Gonzales, I. Hernandez, D. Hernandez, Barragan, G. Lopez, M. Pidone, Flores, Saucedo.
  2. Safety (Mrs. Flores)
  3. Reminder: Teachers, please instruct students not to open doors for anyone.
  4. Safety lessons (4) must be completed by Oct. 25. Put sign in sheets in your binders. If you need copies, Shyloh has copies
  5. Will have a lock down in the following weeks.
  6. Reverse evacuation drill will be held in the spring.
  7. Safety bags will be passed out sometime this week.
  8. Christmas Store (Madrid)
  9. Will take vote to find out Angel Tree versus Christmas store. Reps were asked to check with teachers.
  10. Requesting that teachers ID students “in need.”
  11. EPAC Update (Ochoa)
  12. Data being gathered to develop campus plan of action
  13. Safety committee must include custodians, cafeteria managers and a community representative.
  14. Safety plan should be updated to meet campus needs.
  15. Cafeteria staff should be trained CPR
  16. Make sure campus is implementing Olweus and intruder drills.
  17. Camera initiative being rolled out. Elementary campuses will get 10 cameras and high school will get 20.
  18. Raptor system being implemented.
  19. District wants feedback about P2E training held over the summer.
  20. Halloween Dance (Pidone)
  21. Harvest dance will cost $2.00. Students may wear costumes.
  22. Students not attending dance will have PE. Thursday dance schedule is as follows:
  23. K-1 8:15 – 9:15
  24. 2-3 9:30 – 10:30
  25. 4-5 2:00 – 3:00
  26. Field Trips (Pidone) will check with district to see if some of these can be approved.
  27. 1st grade: Pumpkin Patch
  28. 2nd grade: Cattleman’s or Planetarium
  29. 3rd grade: Jump land
  30. 4th Grade: Alamogordo Space museum or Western Playland
  31. 5th Grade: Carlsbad.

  3. Chairs for students will be marked with teacher’s name
  4. Please make sure scholars report to cafeteria in a timely manner.
  5. Monitors will help out with PK students
  6. Phone Tree (Flores)
  7. Phone tree will be developed for emergencies. SIT members should get phone number of grade level teachers. Admin will contact SIT members and SIT members will contact grade level
  8. Early Release-1. Potluck? 2. Faculty Pictures wear all black 3. Burger King Night
  9. Please vote on whether you want potluck or catered lunch on early release.
  10. Make sure you wear your black t-shirt for pictures on Wednesday 10/30 (early release)
  11. Reminder Burger King Night on 10/30. We made $350.00 from our Chik-fil-a Nightl
  12. Science Fair (Mrs. Nunez/Nava)
  13. 3-5 grade participated
  14. All projects were due on Tuesday 2/15.
  15. Tuesday morning from 8:00 – 10:45 project boards will be displayed in cafeteria. Students will follow schedule. (2-5th grade)
  16. 10/29/2013 will be Science Night from 5 PM – 6 PM. Winners of Science Fair will be announced and awards will be presented.
  17. Technology Update (Trejo) Surface tablets are getting ready to be disbursed district wide. On Nov. 8 during collaborative, there will be Lexia training.
  18. ESL Academies (Flores) PK –K students will complete 120 hours of tutoring. Mrs. Becerra is taking care of it. Teachers will get forms to fill out and report what students need extra help with. Interventions will be provided.
  19. Parent Portal (K. Gonzales)
  20. K. Gonzales will be the point of contact. She will get training to add parents and get their user names and passwords set up. Parents may use the same user name and password as last year.
  21. Teachers need to make sure they post grades regularly and on a timely basis so that parents can help if student failing.
  22. Curb Side Service System/New Line up in front of school (Mrs. Flores)
  23. Have not been able to complete due to lack of color paper. Names are being made for teachers in K-2 grade to place in parent’s front dashboard when picking up students in front of school.
  24. Teachers will need to assist when they see parents arriving, they should send child down to monitor to get in car.
  25. Latino Family Nights (Flores)
  26. Teachers need to encourage students to come. So far turn out has been good.
  27. Meetings were moved from the library to the volunteer room.
  28. Possible scheduling change to Thursdays 4:30 – 6:30.
  29. Other concerns
  30. Ms Lopez (CIS) will be going to classrooms to help and work with students.
  31. Mr. Wood is the new TIA. Please help out and give him direct instructions and goals. He is learning and should be told what the instructional focus is.
  32. Parent Teacher Conferences 4 – 7:30 on Wednesday 10/23/2013
  33. Fall festival this Friday! Tickets on sale.
