LCMS SBDM approved our revised mission statement on March 18. Our new statement is…
E4 - Excellence… Every person… Every choice… Every moment. We feel this statement aligns with our district mission and The Leader In Me initiative that we are implementing for the upcoming school year.
The LCMS family is very proud of Josey Tolley. She was recognized at the Conservation Banquet for winning second place in the county essay contest for grades 6-12. Also, LCMS was recognized for 100% participation in the essay contest and received $100 and a plaque. Josey also competed in the Governor’s Cup State Composition Finals.
Several 8th graders are applying for the KMSA Middle School Scholarship. Only two scholarships will be awarded in our region, and 16 for the entire state. We are wishing those students well and will be highly honored if one of them receives this prestigious scholarship. It looks promising as they are ALL amazing learners. Last year, Emily Owens won.
Our 8th grade STLP students toured Transylvania University and impressed the advisors with their CCR and questioning.
100% of LCMS certified staff members took the TELL Survey. Two LCMS staff members have received Live Red Staff Awards. We are very proud of Ms. Sara Hall and Mrs. Gail Anderson
LCMS will submit applications for Bronze National Recognition in the Healthy Schools Program and the Let’s Move Active Schools Award.
On May 1, Steve Olsen from Learning 360 will video our staff using instructional strategies and submit those videos to the Edivation website for teachers across the nation to use for professional learning.
8th grade transition to high school: LCMS 8th graders participated in Operation Preparation Career Cruising Advising on March 10 and individual advising on March 16-17. They met with 16 career professionals in very small groups; the groups will be chosen based on the student’s ILP-designated career pathway. Mrs. Ronda Taylor did a great job organizing this event. The advisors were complimentary of the students and their knowledge of the ILP. The LCHS counselor met with 8th grade students on March 12 to discuss high school scheduling. The LCHS CTE teachers met with 8th graders on March 18 to discuss LCHS electives and career pathways. 8th grade students and parents attended 8th grade night at the high school on March 19 to tour the school and discuss high school registration.
6th grade transition to middle school: The LCMS counselor will work with 6th graders on scheduling in April. Elementary students will tour LCMS in May. Teachers have met to discuss many transitioning activities. 6th graders will be invited to our ILP party. We’re planning a Jump Start summer camp in conjunction with O-Zone. On August 4, we’re planning Home Visits from 1-4 PM and Open House from 5-8 PM.
LCMS is working for 100% PARENT review of the ILP for the 4th straight year!!! As of March 31, thirty-nine (39) of 191 parents have reviewed the ILP.
LCMS parents are currently taking the annual Title I survey to help us improve student achievement.
7th graders will participate in the Reality Store on April 21.
4th Quarter Midterm Progress Reports will go home on April 17. Quarter 3 reward parties for students meeting their individual goals are April 23. The next club day is April 24. Wellness Day is May 13. K-PREP Testing is May 14-21. The 7th Grade Awards Assembly is May 28 at 9 AM. 8th Grade Graduation is May 28 at 10 AM.
LCMS SBDM elections are underway. Nominations for membership are due by April 3 at 3 PM. The LCMS PTSO will conduct parent SBDM council elections on April 22 from 7-8 AM and 1-6 PM during on Spring Concert. Teacher elections are April 15.
April 22 is the 3rd Quarter Awards Assembly from 1:16-2:16. We invite you to attend as we celebrate students who Live RED !!!
Our Program Review Committee has worked very hard to submit narratives justifying ratings of each program review characteristic. They have uploaded evidence to OneDrive. Please join our group if you wish to see our Program Review documentation. In addition, all Literacy, Coordinated School Health, and Arts & Humanities newsletters are posted to the LCMS home page to help keep our stakeholders informed of innovative practices.
LCMS is working to increase parent involvement. We are encouraging parents to attend the Governor’s Commonwealth Institute for Parent Leadership which is part of the Prichard Committee. We are trying to keep our website and social media posts updated. We have had several parents update their phone numbers through the One Call Self-Update system. We encourage parents to join PTSO, volunteer, take surveys, and/or fill out a Volunteer Log for activities they do at home with their child. The log may be found on our website under "PTSO..." then "Parent Involvement Documentation Form.”
LCMS teachers have conducted face-to-face parent conferences with 89% of our parents.
LCMS has 1,909 documented volunteer hours as of March 31.
LCMS attendance year-to-date (Aug. 7-April 3) is 94.64%. Our goal is 98% for the year.
LCMS has 192 followers on Twitter (LCMS_LiveRed) and has made 1,138 tweets.
LCMS has 315 Likes of our Facebook page (Livingston County Middle School) which includes multiple posts, photos, and videos.
