Hello Coaches,

To ensure that fields are set up safely and timely for our games, the Majors Division is implementing a field maintenance schedule.

The commissioners will continue to provide access to the equipment and assistance, but we need to spread this workload appropriately

The Home Team of each game at Narberth Parkwill be responsible for field maintenance.

•  On weekday games, the Home Team will be responsible for setting up AND taking down the equipment. Please try to complete the set-up work at least a half-hour before the start of the game, and equipment take-down immediately after the game ends.

•  Onweekend games, theHome Teamfor the 10am game will be responsible forsetting up the field. The Home Team for the 12pm game will be responsible fortaking down the equipment. Please try to complete the set-up work at least an hour before the start of the game, and equipment take-down immediately after the game ends.

Below is a list of the tasks to be completed:

1. Obtaining Equipment: Phil or Vince willprovide access to the brick "Snack Shack" building to obtain the backstop supports (6 in total). Access to the score board shed will be needed to obtain rakes, shovels, trowels, and infield drying agent, if necessary. Bases for the 50-70 diamond remain in place – please do not remove them. Occasionally, some equipment ends up in the locker box next to the tennis courts, so check there if necessary tools (hammers, tape measures, etc.) cannot be found in the snack shack.

2. Raising and Lowering the Backstop: There are 6 support poles, all with a pin on both ends. Working alongside another person, and in unison, secure 2 support poles per section, attaching each pole to the top and bottom horizontal bar of each section. Push the backstop up using the poles to access the next bar/section. Using the support poles, push the backstop up in three successive sections. The last set of support poles are usually secured to a horizontal pole that is approximately a foot under where the netting ends. Please make sure to lock in the pin on each section. To lower the backstop, reverse the process above. Once lowered, secure the backstop by looping the cable around the horizontal bars and locking the padlock. Place the 6 support poles near the snack shack storage door.

3. Prepping the Infield: Basically, wherever there is dirt, please rake it and smooth it out, but please do not rake over the chalk foul lines. Rake around all the bases and any open infield with exposed dirt. Rake the pitching mound, and the entire area around home plate and backstop. If puddles exist, please use a long, flat rake to push the water out to the grass, then rake to help the area dry as quickly as possible. There might be a bag of drying agent in the score board shed if there is excessive mud. Rakes, shovels, and other tools should be returned to the score board shed.

4. Prepping Bench Areas: Ensure player benches are located at a safe distance along each baseline. Push water out of any puddles near the benches. As a reminder, please have your teams pick up any remaining trash following every game.
