PASTOR FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

CONTEXT

St Peter’s is a lively BaptistChurch on the south side of Worcester. We are a congregation of around 400 with a big commitment to evangelism and community involvement. We currently run five youth groups, a coffee shop open 6 days a week, and many other ministries.

Our vision for the next three years is to GO DEEPER with God, GO DEEPER in relationships and GO DEEPER in mission.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Pastor For Young People will work closely in a team with the Senior Pastor (Martin Hodson) and the Assistant Pastor(Steve Thomson). The pastors will all be committed to building up the church as a whole and each will have specialist areas of responsibility.

Specialist responsibility

To provide leadership, oversight and support for our ministry to young people at high school, students and early 20s. In particular, to lead fringe young people to move into the committed core of young, enthusiastic disciples of Jesus.

  1. Oversight of all existing activities in the 11-23 age range, including weekly clubs and housegroups plus residential activities.
  2. Co-ordinate and develop Youth Services.
  3. Ensure leaders are recruited and trained for these ministries.
  4. Pastor and visit (as appropriate) young people.
  5. Initiate new activities for this age-group as needed.
  6. Ensure support is provided to students who have gone out from the church to study elsewhere.
  7. Develop our links with students studying in Worcester.

  1. To cultivate your own relationship with God and seek continuing spiritual growth
  2. To work positively with the whole Leadership Team in developing vision, decision-making and oversight of the church
  3. To demonstrate compassion and mercy and to practise evangelism

PERSON SPECIFICATION

The Successful candidate will have the following qualities and skills:

  1. A committed and passionate Christian faith, demonstrated in practice and professed through baptism as a believer
  2. A strong desire to lead young people to Christ and help them grow as disciples
  3. A track-record of leadership in youth ministry
  4. A strong ability as a communicator, particularly with young people
  5. Leadership skills, including the ability to recruit, inspire, motivate, support and manage volunteers
  6. Agreement with the Vision and Values and Constitution of the church

Desirable

  1. Training in theology/Biblical studies
  2. Training in youth ministry

STIPEND

The payment will be based on the standard stipend for Baptist Ministers, currently £19,350, plus a contribution to accommodation costs plus pension contributions.
