8 Session Course Instructor Guide

In preparation for the 1st two sessions

1) Print and pass out the 8 sessioncourse STUDENT guide for each student.

2) Print and pass out: Session 1-2Lesson Review Questions(see #1 below)

First 2 ½hour session: (see the Drivers Edge Curriculumguide for more detail on each lesson)

1) Pass out to each student the Word Document: Session 1-2 Lesson Review Questions.

This is found in yellow folder: #3) Student Review Sheets and Quizzes and Final Test.

Click open folder, then open Session 1-2 Lesson ReviewQuestions.These review questions

will cover the PowerPoint lessons for the first 2 sessions….which is classroom lessons 1-4.

(Your students will download and print off the rest of the course review sheets and other

documents needed from the website)

2) Pass these out and give an explanation that these questions will be answered at the

end of each lesson. They’ll need to be studied in preparation for a 30 question quiz

at the beginning of Session 3

3) Teach Lesson1: Rules of Road – part 1. After a short break, teachRules of Road - part 2.

4) Print out for each student a copy of the Word Document: Independent Learning Research

Projects.This is found in the yellow folder #6: Experiential Learning Research Projects.

Briefly go over the projects in class. Whenever you decide, students will inform you of their

choice. Explain that the project is due at the beginning of Session 7 or Session 8 (whatever

works better for your schedule) and that they will be required to give a written summation

of their research project as part of the final exam.

Second 2 ½ hour session

1) If you have an Internet connection in your classroom go to:

noticing the various PowerPoint lessons and corresponding Word Document lesson review

questions. Click open the file:

Home link Lesson 1 – Review Questions. Scroll down so they can see the sample questions.

Explain to them that when they go to this site at home that they willprint out these

questions and answer them as they go through the first Home link PowerPoint lesson of the

same title. They should look for the answers as they go through the lesson. Now, open the

first Home link lesson: Home link Lesson 1 – Traffic Laws and Regulations and go through

a few slides to give them the idea. TO ADVANCE THE SLIDE PRESENTATION – CLICK the

CURSOR ON THE ACTUAL SLIDE. After a few slides, use the back button to return to the

home page.

(if you as an instructor, do not have Internet access in your classroom, the Student

Instruction Guidewill go through all these things…they can do it at home).

2) Besides the Traffic Laws and Regulations lesson,they must also complete the additional

home link lessons: Basic Vehicle Components, and Forces of Nature on Vehicle. Tell them

all homework assignment sheets must be filled out and brought to class on session 3.

They will be quizzed in session 3 concerning what they studied in session 1 and 2 and the

home link lessons.

3) Teach classroom Lesson 3: Vehicle Handling – part 1 (short break)

4) Teach classroom Lesson 4: Vehicle Handling – part 2

5) Remind them about the Home link lessons they must have completed by next classroom.

In preparation for the 3 Session:

Your students should already have: Classroom Session 3-4 Lesson Review Questions (if you instructed your students to download them and print them off the website themselves…(but it’s good to have some extras on hand if some did not)

Session 3: 2 ½ hour session:

1) Students should have completed the 3 home link lessons from Sessions 1-2. Collect papers and check them over during the break and return them as soon as possible, as they will need them back to study for future testing.

2) Give Sessions 1-2 Lesson QUIZ. (it covers Sessions 1-2 lessons and Home link lessons). Students number a blank sheet of paper from 1-30. After administering the quiz, students exchange papers, correct the answers, then, list the point total of correct answers at the top of the page. Collect papers and record one point for each correct answer. With a perfect quiz score a student can maximize 30 points.

3) Teach the PowerPoint lesson: Lesson 5: Vehicle Handling – part 3 (after a short break)

4) Teach the PowerPoint lesson: Lesson 6: Vehicle Handling – part 4

5) Explain the Driving With Parent Survey Formassignment (You should print up one copy)

and instruct them to download their copy off the website. Due: Session 6

Session4: 2 ½ hour session

1) Teach the PowerPoint lesson: Lesson 7: Vehicle Handling – part 5 (after short break)

2) Teach the PowerPoint lesson: Lesson 8: Vehicle Handling – part 6

3) Assign Home Mentored Rules of the Road review exercise with parents (parent signs sheet)

4) Remind students to complete the next assigned 2 Independent Home Link Learning hours and

complete the corresponding lesson review sheets which will be due for the next class.

Students should Sessions 5-6 Lesson Review Questions

(it’s good to have some extras on hand if some did not)

Session 5 - 2 ½ hour session:

1) Students should have completed the home link lessons from Sessions 3-4. Collect papers and check them over during the break and return them as soon as possible, as they will need them back to study for future testing.

1) Teach the PowerPoint lesson: Classroom Lesson 11 – Attention – part 3

2) Lesson 12: Rules of Road PowerPoint TEST(students use own paper) exchange correct test in class.

3) Traffic Survey – small group discussion findings (groups of 3-4)

4) Remind students to complete the last assigned Home Link 6 and complete the corresponding lesson review sheet which will be due for the next class.

Session 7 - 2 ½ hour session:

1) Collect completedhome link lesson review sheets from Sessions 5-6.

Collect Experiential Research Project.

4) Lesson 14 – VEHICLE HANDLING TEST (students use own paper; 75 questions)

(exchange papers and correct)

Session 8 - 2 ½ hour session:

1) Lesson 15: Play the 3 Driver Ed.review games (divide class into 2 teams)

2) Lesson 16: Responsible Driver TEST (100 questions) exchange papers and correct in class.

This test must be printed out by instructor and given to each student to work on.

Students will use their own notebook paper to record answers. (save test for future classes)
