Meeting Minutes 12/9/2015

1.  Bunnings Seaford BBQ Opportunities? -- Simon still following up. Bunnings’ official opening has been set back.

2.  Harvey Norman BBQ - September 26th (9am-5pm) and 27th (11am-5pm). Roster has been circulated and we are still looking for volunteers. Grant Sibly at the Rotary Club of Hallett Cove has offered their club BBQ. This will need to be picked up in Hallett Cove and dropped back. - Mark has offered to pick up trailer

3.  Seaford Recreation Centre – we have been asked to do a BBQ for a market at SRC on September 30. This was discusses but I have declined as (A) we will struggle to find volunteers and (B) will have spent the entire weekend at Harvey Norman. Wary of overdoing the BBQs, but also keen to get exposure and raise funds.

4.  Seaford Family Fun Day October 8 at Seaford Secondary College (SSC). We will have an opportunity to run a food/membership stall at this event.

5.  Christmas Carols –December 6.

Seaford Ecumenical Mission (SEM) is holding a meeting at 7.00pm on September 20 for initial planning. Simon has offered to attend this meeting. (Simon please contact Pastor Mark Kaesler 0439 862 989)

We are keen to set up a food stall, maybe something different to sausages, but may also be called on to help with logistics.

6.  Seaford Railway Station – Denise to investigating this further. Possible request plants / materials from Bunnings?

7.  Hat Day – Seaford Secondary College (SCC) already have scheduled casual days for Term 4. Reece has spoken to Moana Primary School, they are considering. Reece has booked a stall on October 9, 10 & 11 at Seaford Central Shopping Centre. McLaren Vale club are also holding a stall at the same venue. Mark has contacted McLaren Vale Rotary so we can work together – not in competition

8.  Youth Art Exhibition – No further discussion thus far, Mark will contact Alysha Herrman to see if she is interested in joining the conversation

9.  Next meetings – no meeting on Sep 26 – Harvey Norman BBQ, or October 10, as we have the Hat Day stall and Mark has also invited members to attend Illuminate Membership Seminar.

10.  Membership

We had a good conversation about the future direction of the club, where many issues were put on the table. Mark has recently held a district membership committee meeting where concerns were raised and has a few comments

– Meeting time and venue

Whilst Saturday mornings were initially popular, apart from the first meeting at which we cooked a breakfast, turnout has been disappointing. Everyone enjoyed the breakfast, but it was a lot of hard work to put it on, mainly because of the equipment that was required. Morning tea seemed an easier option, but has proven to be unpopular.

Comments were made about the unsuitability of the upstairs room for people with a disability, mobility issues or parents with prams.

As Saturdays seem to not be suitable day for most people to meet we will try and find a different day and time.

Mark suggested a partnership between Seaford Rotary and The Seaford Netword with regard to a regular (monthly?) breakfast. Rotary runs the breakfast, Seaford Network provides speakers on community issues. Hold at a venue that can provide a breakfast, maybe Moana SLSC? All were positive. Mark will raise with Seaford Network.

We are facing somewhat of a catch 22 situation: without enthusiastic members suggesting project ideas and helping with fundraising initiatives, we can’t get projects up and running; yet without projects to get involved with, we are struggling to get people to come along.

With Bunnings set to open soon, BBQ opportunities there will present not only massive fundraising potential, but better exposure.

Christmas carols will be a great opportunity for exposure and fundraising

We need a cause to rally around:

Mark mentioned a concern raised at the Seaford Network, where homelessness is a big concern. There were no public showering & laundry facilities. The group was keen to investigate the provision of community showers as a potential project. Mark has a contact at KEWCO bathroom products he can ask for assistance. Denise will follow up with Helen Bates at SEM for needs analysis. Check with Chris Picton and Council representatives for a potential venue. Make use of a community grant.

This is a project that could build momentum in the community.
