Description

This position is responsible for assessing, reviewing, identifying and training management and drivers on safety issues within their locations. This position is an integral extension of RCX corporate commitment to provide safe and reliable transportation to RCX’s clients.

Primary Job Responsibilities

·  Conducts observations of drivers within the location both in the Yard and on the Road

·  Assess issues in and around the railroad yard that are safety hazards

o  Notifies RCX client of the hazard

o  Develops communication and/or training to familiarize RCX drivers on avoiding such hazards

·  Provide safety training to current employees

·  Provide safety training during applicant on-boarding process

·  Provide Post Accident training for employees involved in an accident

·  Review SmartDrive clips for location and make recommendations to location management for needed training or disciplinary steps to ensure steps are taken to improve the driver’s performance in a safe and consistent manner

·  Investigate accidents and employee injuries when they occur within the location

·  Conduct periodic random vehicle inspections to validate the maintenance of the fleet within the location

·  Create and maintain location specific reports as to the effectiveness of the safety program within the location

·  Professional and courteous interaction with all employees, vendors and customers

Secondary Job Responsibilities

·  Conducts Post Accident drug and alcohol testing

·  Assists Director of Corporate Risk with ongoing investigations

·  Perform other duties as assigned

Educational Requirements

·  BA in Business or similar field preferred

Experience Requirements

·  1-3 years of safety specific experience within the transportation field

Computer Skill Requirements

Minimum Employment Requirements

·  Current valid state issued Driver’s License issued by the State of Residence

·  Employees can have no active warrants or undisposed charges – felony or misdemeanors

·  Employees can’t have a felony conviction within the past 7 years

·  Employees can’t have an incarceration, or release within the past 5 years

·  No more than 2 non-violent class misdemeanors, including DWI/DUI, within the previous 7 years

·  No record of Drug or Alcohol related convictions, including SWI/DUI, within the previous 7 years

·  No more than 1 preventable accident in the last 3 years

·  No more than 1 moving violation within the last 3 years

Physical Qualifications

·  Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.

·  Position requires extended periods of time sitting

·  Employees must be able to meet the following physical requirements:

o  Has no loss of a foot, a leg, a hand, or an arm, or has been granted a waiver

o  Has no impairment of:

§  A hand or finger which interferes with prehension or power grasping; or

§  An arm, foot, or leg which interferes with the ability to perform normal tasks associated with operating a motor vehicle; or any other significant limb defect or limitation which interferes with the ability to perform normal tasks associated with operating a motor vehicle; or has been granted a waiver.

o  Has no established medical history or clinical diagnosis of diabetes mellitus currently requiring insulin for control.

o  Has no current clinical diagnosis of myocardial infarction, angina pectoris, coronary insufficiency, thrombosis, or any other cardiovascular disease of a variety known to be accompanied by syncope, dyspnea, collapse, or congestive cardiac failure.

o  Has no established medical history or clinical diagnosis of a respiratory dysfunction likely to interfere with his/her ability to control and drive a motor vehicle safely.

o  Has no current clinical diagnosis of high blood pressure likely to interfere with his/her ability to operate a motor vehicle safely.

o  Has no established medical history or clinical diagnosis of rheumatic, arthritic, orthopedic, muscular, neuromuscular, or vascular disease which interferes with his/her ability to control and operate a motor vehicle safely.

o  Has no established medical history or clinical diagnosis of epilepsy or any other condition which is likely to cause loss of consciousness or any loss of ability to control a motor vehicle.

o  Has no mental, nervous, organic, or functional disease or psychiatric disorder likely to interfere with his/her ability to drive a motor vehicle safely.

o  Has distant visual acuity of at least 20/40 (Snellen) in each eye without corrective lenses or visual acuity separately corrected to 20/40 (Snellen) or better with corrective lenses, distant binocular acuity of at least 20/40 (Snellen) in both eyes with or without corrective lenses, field of vision of at least 70 degrees in the horizontal meridian in each eye, and the ability to recognize the colors of traffic signals and devices showing standard red, green, and amber.

o  First perceives a forced whispered voice in the better ear at not less than 5 feet with or without the use of a hearing aid or, if tested by use of an audiometric device, does not have an average hearing loss in the better ear greater than 40 decibels at 500 Hz, 1,000 Hz, and 2,000 Hz with or without a hearing aid when the audiometric device is calibrated to American National Standard (formerly ASA Standard) Z24.5-1951.

o  Does not use a Schedule I drug or other controlled substance identified as an amphetamine, narcotic, or any other habit-forming drug, except that a driver may use such a substance or drug if the substance or drug is prescribed by a licensed medical practitioner who is familiar with the driver’s medical history and assigned duties and who has advised the driver that the prescribed substance or drug will not adversely affect the driver’s ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.

o  Has no current clinical diagnosis of alcoholism.

·  Pre-employment of drug and alcohol test must be passed

·  Random drug and alcohol tests must be passed

·  Must submit to and pass a DOT Physical examination where applicable or when required due to job performance concerns
