International Standardization Council Charter

The International Standardization Council within the Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) has been designated to coordinate all aspects of standardization efforts within CSA. The council chair is responsible for governance and oversight of the council.Efforts are jointly executed by CSA Global, standard developing organizations (SDOs),and relevant working groups. Specifically, working groups refers to those working groups whose work is instrumental in global standardization efforts or whose work has beenidentified as an offering that will be instrumental in bridging the gap existing in current global standardization efforts. Thus, the councilis formed with the purpose to coordinateexecution of this work.

Membership

Ideally, Council members should be interested in standardization efforts in cloud computing as well as relevant security and privacy standards, and have experience in SDOs or similar organizations. Council membership shall take two forms: voting and advisory. Each represented organization shall designate its primary representative and optionally, one or more alternate representatives. Membership is open to:

  • anyCSA corporate memberrepresentatives,
  • any affiliated CSA members who are involved with SDOs, and
  • any at-large CSA members proposed by Council voting membership (with appropriate approval) or appointed by the Standards Secretariat.

Council membership will be reviewed on an annual basis but additions to the council membership can be made anytime.Additional information on memberships can be found in the Council's Policies & Procedures.

Standards Secretariat

The council shall be convened by the Standards Secretariat (employee of CSA) who will oversee the formation of the council and serve as the Council's initial officer until such time as the officers are appointed or elected. If after being convened, the Council leadership (chair or co-chairs) becomes vacant due to resignation, removal, lack of nomination at an election or for another reason, a temporary appointment shall be made by the Standards Secretariat for a period of up to six months.

The Standards Secretariat shall serve as the primary interface between the Council and the SDOs with regards to formal submissions of CSA comments and contributions. This ensures that the CSA has a record of all of its transactions associated with the SDOs and that CSA intellectual property has been protected and/or released appropriately.

Council Officers

There shall be either a Chair or no more than two Co-Chairs. To be eligible, candidates shall be representatives of voting members of the Council.

Responsibilities

The council will be the primary decision-making body that will provide resolutions to the Standards Secretariat onissues related to the management of standardization coordination within CSA as well asliaisons and partnerships with SDOs externally.

Specific responsibilities include:

  1. Coordinate Standardization efforts within CSA
  2. Provide a mapping between SDOs and CSA projects and working groups. This will include identification of need to initialize new liaison relationship with SDOs and maintaining that relationship.
  3. Collate Subject Matter Expert (SME) feedback to external SDOs (SME within corporate members, working groups and projects)
  4. For commenting on liaison statements sent by SDOs; and
  5. For inputs into our liaison statements to SDOS.
  6. Identify work that is mature for collaboration with SDOs
  7. Identify work that requires SDOs’ input
  1. Be the conduit for all CSA working groups and projects in their communications with external SDOs. Hence, the council is also responsible for identification of potential collaborations and recommending formal liaison officers to represent CSA in these SDOs.
  1. Be the only recognized channel for CSA to communicate to any SDOs.

Charter Changes

Changes to the Council's charter (this document) may occur at the request of CSA Executivesor by approval of a resolution by 2/3 of the voting membership with subsequent approval of the appropriate CSA Executive.
