ENHANCING TEACHER DEVELOPMENT FUND

NTIP OVERVIEW AND APPLICATION

Overview

ETD – NTIP in year funding is available to boards on a limited basis for 2017/18 if any of the criteria below apply:

Criteria / Rationale
New Long Term Occasional Teachers with assignments of 4 months (80 days) but less than 97 days /
  • Addresses gap between mandatory Occasional Teacher Evaluation for new LTOs (4 months) and current NTIP eligible LTO definition of 97 days

Significant hiring of new Long Term Occasional Teachers 97+ days compared to number of new permanent hires /
  • New LTOs are not currently funded under the NTIP GSN funding formula and require both support under NTIP and an OT evaluation

Significant increase in number of new permanent hires from previous years /
  • Current per teacher allocation in the NTIP GSN funding formula is based on number of teachers on Rows 0, 1, and 2 of a board's Teacher Qualifications and Experience Grid from previous year

NTIP required permanent hires past Year 2 on the Teacher Qualifications and Experience Grid /
  • In some boards, experience as an LTO “counts” towards placement on the Teacher Qualifications and Experience Grid when the teacher is hired to a permanent position
  • These new permanent hires are not captured by the current NTIP GSN funding formula and require NTIP support along with 2 TPAs within their first 12 months of teaching

Application Process and Timelines

  • September 29, 2017– Application (page 2 of this form) submitted to Professionalism, Teaching Policy and Standards Branch
  • October 2017 – Boards receive notification of outcome of application and funding is flowed to successful applicants for use in the 2017/18school year
