Landscape Garden Roof / Podium Deck

(UV protected membrane)

1.11

Where so designated on the drawings, surfaces shall be waterproofed with a high performance, two-layer torch on, reinforced, polymer-bitumen waterproofing membrane system with the top layer also root resistant.

The membrane system is to be overlaid with a dimpled protection and drainage membrane in high density extruded polyethylene with continuous filament yarn geo-textile.

1.12

General

All surfaces shall be prepared, membrane applied strictly in accordance with the current supplier technical data sheet.

All work shall be carried out by a pre-qualified contractor, who is well trained in the application of the specific, documented, membrane system.

All materials used in conjunction with the new membrane system, shall be approved by the membrane supplier.

1.13

Surface Preparation

All membrane substrate surfaces shall be smooth, clean, dry, in a sound state and free from irregularities and any contamination.

Polymer modified sand / cement fillets shall be installed at all change in direction substrate locations (e.g. from horizontal to vertical). With sheet membranes all internal and external corners shall be double detailed in accordance with the manufacture’s recommendations.

All substrate cracks and surface imperfections are to be filled, sealed and dry prior to membrane application.

1.14

The base membrane layer is to be 4mm minimum thickness composite material with reinforcement impregnated with SBS bitumen on the underside in contact with the substrate and the top face is made of APP bitumen.

When tested in accordance with UEAtc directive Jan 1984, it shall exhibit the following properties:

Tensile strength L/T: / 650 / 500 N/5cm / EN12311-1
Ultimate elongation L/T: / 45% / 50% / EN12311-1
Shear resistance L/T: / 550/400 N/5cm
Water tightness: (after ageing) / 60 kPa / EN 1928 – B Method
Cold flexibilty: / -25oC / (EN 1109)

1.15

Top Membrane

The top membrane layer is to be 4mm minimum thickness, elasto-plastomeric, polymer bitumen, water proofing membrane, with an anti-root additive, reinforced with non-woven single strand spunbonded polyester fabric.

When tested in accordance with UEAtc directive Jan 1984 shall exhibit the following properties:

Impermeability to water: / >/= 60 kPa / EN1928
Resistance to roots test: / Passed / UNI 8202-DIN 4102
Tensile strength L/T: / 600 / 400 N/5cm / EN12311-1
Ultimate elongation L/T: / 35% / 40% / EN12311-1

Drainage Sheet overlay

[nominate area(s) for drainage sheet ]

1.17

Where so designated on the drawings, surfaces shall have a (nominate selected waterproofing drainage sheet system) drainage and membrane protection sheet applied.

1.18

General

All surfaces shall be prepared, and the drainage sheet, applied strictly in accordance with the current manufacturer technical data sheet.

All materials used in conjunction with the drainage sheet system, shall be approved by the membrane supplier.

1.19

Drainage sheet

The protection and drainage membrane shall comprise a dimpled high density polyethylene (HDPE) membrane with a layer of polypropylene geotextile fabric manufactured from a continuous filament yarn and shall exhibit the following properties:

Compression resistance: / > 200 kN / m2 (20 t/m2) ca
Stud height: / 8 mm
Studs per square metre: / 1860 (approx.)
Air volume between studs: / 5.5 lt. / m2 (approx.)
Drainage capacity: / 4.6 lt./ m2/ s
Thermal stability: / -40oC to +80oC
