90% of Advocates violence cases are domestic/family violence. Diane handed out a flyer with a list of her services. Really need to make more people aware of signs of violence and to contact the appropriate people. 911 for emergency situations and call Advocates 24hr crisis line for nonemergency situations or when calling the police could endanger someone.

Here are some high risk concerns/factors that we as Health and Human Services should be aware of and to train our staff to be aware.

  • Separated but still living in the same home
  • Alcohol in the home
  • Unemployment
  • When a spouse has talked about leaving
  • If an employee says “If I don’t show up to work, call the police”

If you hear that something is not right (i.e. child screaming and crying for extended periods of time) it is ok to investigate. We need to make the community as a whole more aware. Diane is working with Mark Andersen to secure long term funding for this awareness campaign – hopefully 2 years.
