Hi Steve, handling IRBs of all these students has been overwhelming this quarter for me. I thought I had sent you Kaur's revised protocol. Attached is a copy.
Sorry for the confusion and all.

Chandra, My Punjabi reviewer has apparently withdrawn, or at least has stopped communicating with me. I'm willing to call the written Punjabi documents good, because in the face-to-face situation anything that isn't clear would be dealt with in the conversation between the researcher and the subject. Get me the English revisions when they are available. -s

Thanks a lot, Steve, for working on this. I am working with the student on fixing her English errors on the protocol and her chapters.

Did I miss something?

Hi Paran, Just to make sure you don't forget the review of the Punjabi
consent form for the project involving health interviews of older Sikh
persons. Earlier today I sent the researchers IRB comments on the
English part of their protocol. thanks again, -s

Hi Chandra,
I do not have the review back on the Punjabi in your proposed study
involving health interviews of older Sikh persons. However, the only
concern by IRB reviewers is that there are some grammatical errors in
the English consent form that should be corrected. I'll try to get the
Punjabi review back to you ASAP. -s

Hi Paran, That's fine. I appreciate your help on this. You should note
your role as Punjabi translation editor for the Institutional Review Board
on your resume! -s

Hi Paran,
We have permission for you to access the consent forms and interview
questions in English and Punjabi. I've attached these. I don't know what
the capacity of your e-mail is, but this doc is over 2 Megs because the
Punjabi is scanned in. Let me know if this send doesn't work. I could
break it up into pieces, or I could just print it and you could have a
print copy. Thanks again for doing this for the IRB. -s

Hi Chandra,

The president of the CSUB Sikh Student Association told me that she would

be happy to review your Punjabi consent form for the project looking at

health problems in older Sikh women in the Bakersfield area. Can I have

your permission to share the doc with her?

Also, and I don't have your protocol in front of me, but I don't recall

seeing an English version of the Punjabi document. I think we should have

that to facilitate the quality of the review.

thanks-s

Subject: / Proof-Reading Punjabi Consent Form

Hi Paran,
I don't know if it was you I spoke with at your table in DDH during a
club day a while back. However, I was looking for persons who are
skilled in reading and writing Punjabi to proof read the occasional
consent form or survey that we get submitted to the Institutional Review
Board. The IRB reviews all research proposals at CSUB to make sure the
subjects are being treated ethically. So, I have just received a
research project that will involve interviews to identify health
problems in older Sikh persons in our community and it has a consent
form in Punjabi that I need to have proof read. Can you, or someone else
involved in the Sikh Student Association, help us out with this?
thanks -s
