Additional note to owners and developers of urban lots in the BPA

Verification of hazard removal by DTPLI does not guarantee a Bushfire Prone Area designation will be removed. DTPLI assesses all areas in line with its BPA criteria and method of assessment. Assessment includes consultation with local Councils, relevant State departments and fire agencies, the Victorian Building Authority and the Municipal Association of Victoria. All final decisions made are at the discretion of the Minister for Planning.

A person can apply to the Building Appeals Board for individual assessment of lots affected by the BPA.

Further information about the Board is available on the Victorian Building Authority’s website at or they can be telephoned on 1300 421 082.
