Communications: President Ball read a letter from the Jefferson County Dairy Breakfast council explaining what they do and when their event is this year. The money they raise goes towards scholarships they give away. Motion by Ball, second by L. Mueller to approve a $50 donation to them. All ayes carried.
Business:
- Introduction of new members: Dave Turner President of the Historical Society, Ed Dionne owner of Circle K Campground, and Jessica Kreger owner of Kreger photography all told a little something about themselves and their businesses.
- Lori Garlock explained that the Village wide Rummage Sale will be April 30th, May 1st & May 2nd this year and she is open for suggestions on getting the flyers printed cheaply. Motion by L. Mueller, second by K. Anderson to allow Lori to make the decision on the printing of the flyers for the rummage sale.
- Laurie Mueller passed out the ad that will be on the back page of Palmyra Enterprise this Friday. All of the spaces were filled and it looks very nice. Next month the Chamber might want to talk about the new 2010 book coming out and maybe a congratulations to the graduates.
- Karen Klatt and Laurie Mueller have been trying to make contact with some of the area businesses to try to get more participation for Career Day. So far the Fire & Police Dept. say they will participate, the Palmyra Bowl and some area Farmers. They will continue to work on this and hopefully we can get enough participation.
- Rick Ball said spoke with Insurance Agent Deb Ball to see if she has gotten any interest in the health plan. She said about 5 or 6 people have shown some interest. The Chamber may have to send out mailings to members in an effort to get the information out.
- Marie Koch gave an update on the 2010 Chamber Book. The deadline for ads to be put into the book are April 2nd. The cover has been reviewed by Ruthann Mueller and Marie and there are still changes that need to be made. The ads are selling pretty well and we haven’t had to drop any pages from the book.
- Motion by Marie Koch, second by Terry Burrington to add Wendy Lucht to the scholarship committee. She was on it last year and requested to be on this year. This would also make it a 5 person committee so no worries of a tie vote. All ayes-carried.
Any Other Business: Dave Turner spoke about the possibility of the Chamber coming to a meeting at sometime in the future to discuss creating a Downtown Historical District. This would allow the Historical Society to apply for grant money, etc. At this time he isn’t sure when the meeting would be but the support of the Chamber and the Village Board would be very helpful.
Laurie Mueller said that she had been on the Eagle Business Associate website and liked that they listed all of the different things they were involved in and wondered if this is something at some point we could put on our website also? Mueller said that they also have the form to become a member on their site and thought this would also be a good idea. This is something that could be discussed at another meeting.
Denise Derry from the Jefferson Daily Union gave a price quote of $20 per ad with 4 colors to run an ad similar to the one that the Palmyra Enterprise is running for us with the businesses in it. Marie Koch from the Community Shopper also quoted $52 with color and the possibility of having the ad on their website.
There being no other business L. Mueller made a motion, second by K. Anderson to adjourn at 9:22 a.m.
