*** It is critical that all parking permit holders carefully review this important information ***

Introduction

Parking and Transportation Services, with the input from the campus community, continually reviews our business practices and services to ensure they meet the needs of the campus. In order to meet the demands of campus growth, reduce traffic congestion, and maintain a high level of servicesome changes need to occur with respect to parking programs, permit sign-up process and our price structure. The changes that willaffect the2013-2014 permit yearare outlined below.

Permit Sign-Up Changes

Our typical automatic permit renewal process will not occur for the coming permit year. We believe we can provide better service to the campus by modifying this process. This year you will be required to register indicating your desire to maintain or change your parking permit. Please do not forget to register. Failing to register can cause you to lose your parking.

On March 13, employees on payroll deduction will receive an email with instructions for renewing or cancelling their parking permit for 2013-14. Additionally, you will be asked to update your personal information. Request for a permit change may be submitted at this time. Every effort will be made to assign the permit you request. However, due to program changes and the loss of some parking lots to construction this may not be possible for everyone. Zone 1 permit holders who hold permits in lots that are converting to Lot Specific Lots may select two new lot choices during the sign-up process. We are making this accommodation due to the fact you are required to make a new choice regarding your parking location. PTS will do its best to accommodate your first choice. Please keep in mind that the renewal process is not automatic, as it has been in past years. You must take action to renew your parking permit. All permits will be sent via US Mail in July.

On March 20, current permit holders not paying through a payroll deduction will receive a renewal email and must respond by April 4, 2013 to guarantee a parking permit. This applies mostly to students. Please keep in mind that the renewal process is not automatic, as it has been in past years. You must take action to renew your parking permit. All permits will be sent via US Mail in July.

Permit Rate Changes

Over the past several years, Parking & Transportation Services has been able to forgo any price increase or implement only minor increases. Unfortunately, a very minor price increase will be required for the next permit year. The majority of 2013-2014 permit prices will have only a slight increase of about $1 per month. This increase will help PTS cover rising costs. We receive no State funding. Our revenues allow us to continue to provide programs/services such as CatTran, NightCat, Disability Cart Service, Emergency Ride Home, Motorist Assist Program, and Parking Safety Specialists. In addition, it is important we keep up with parking lot maintenance, lot lighting and the development of new parking options to serve the campus in the future.

Parking Lot Changes

Several parking lots currently in Zone 1 will become Lot Specific parking areas. The affected lots are3113, 4052, 4053, 4054, 4056, 4057, 4121, 4144, and 4177. These lots will be converted to Lot Specific parking. We hope this change will lower traffic congestion in the central campus. By creating specific lot parking, less time will be spent traveling between Zone 1 Lots looking for available space. This change also provides better service to our permit holders by providing more specific parking for them.

Please review the parking map for the location of these lots.

Lot 1224 located at the Corleone apartment complex (Fremont & Mabel) is changing from Lot Specific to Zone 1. Zone 1 designation is more appropriate given the location of this parking lot.

Parking Areas Closed Due To Building Construction Projects

Lots 2182, 4164, 5078, 8109, 8138, 8178, 8179 and Block Specific Parking in the 1700 Block of E. Helen will be lost or impacted due to construction during the 13 – 14 permit year.

Please review the parking map for the location of these lots.

New construction and campus development is important to our University, but it will cause some minor strains for parking.

New Parking Areas

Lot 9008 – This is an Off-Campus Lot. CatTran will provide a shuttle from the lot to the campus. This lot is located on Plumer Avenue south of Broadway.
