My Home

  1. This How-to-Guide will demonstrate the different areas on the My Homepage inside VIULearn.My Home is your starting point in VIULearn.
  1. The main features of the My Home page are the ❶blue Minibar,❷My Courses and the
    ❸Support Area.

Minibar

  1. Let’s start with the blue minibar. The blue minibar contains a link back to My Home, the Course Selector, Alerts and the Personal Menu.
  1. The course selector lists all of your courses in alphabetical order. You can select a course from the list. You can also pin a course to the top of the list to make it easier to access later.
  1. The alerts’ area contains three types of alerts. If you have unread alerts, a red circle appears on the appropriate alert icon (for example see ❸below). When you hover over the icon the name of the alert appears.❶Message alerts contains alerts for new email messages❷Update alertsare mainly for learnersas these alerts are generated by faculty members. ❸Subscription alerts are for all alerts related to discussions that faculty have subscribed.

Minibar

  1. The personal menu is the final area of the blue minibarwhich is one way to access your Profile, Notifications and Account Settings, as well as the ability to Log Out of VIULearn when you are finished.

Support Area

On the right hand side of the screen you will find thesupport area.

Service Notices advise you of important Learning Technology issues. /
Faculty Newsprovides updates relevant to faculty members. /

Support Area

Help for Faculty is where you will find the help information for yourself and how to contact us in the Centre for Innovation and Excellence in Learning. It also contains a link to Learning Matters which is a digital learning commons for VIU learners. The link to Support Resources takes you to the searchable D2L Resource Center. /
Help for Learners is a help area for your l`earners and how they contact us in the Centre for Innovation and Excellence in Learning. It also contains a link to Learning Matters which is a digital learning commons for VIU learners.
The link to Support Resources takes you to the searchable D2L Resource Center. In addition, it contains a link to support on using Screen Readers. /
Open Learning Opportunities area provides information about accessing open learning courses free for you or your learners to take. /

My Settings

/ My Settings is where you can also modify your user Profile (you have the option to add a photo), change your Account Settings (size of text or email settings) or set up your Notifications. You can also modify your Profile, Account Settings and Notifications in the Personal Menu on the blue minibar.

My Courses

  1. My Courses lists all the courses you are teaching. ❶Active courses are visible to your learners.
    Inactive courses are only visible to you.

  1. If you cannot see the course you are looking for, first ensure your My Coursespanel is not collapsed. Click the arrow to expand.
  1. If you cannot see the course you are looking for, second ensure your Semesterpanel is not collapsed. Click the arrow to expand.

  1. You will also want to ensure your ❶Semester and ❷Department filters are set to “All”.
    Select “All” from the drop-down menu.

  1. When all of your panels are expanded and your filters are set to “All” this is a sample of what you may see.

  1. To access one your courses please either click on the course(in the example below you can click on CIEL101: Course Development – F##N01)or select it from theCourse Selector. To get back to the My Home screen, please click on My Home.
