Sahir House volunteering opportunities

Buddy Support Volunteer

Buddy Support Volunteers provide social, practical & transport support to HIV positive service users in the community to help alleviate HIV related stress, promote empowerment and independence. This may include shopping, social support, driving to appointments, home help, etc. DBS policy applies.

Volunteer Skills Coach

Volunteer Skills Coaches provide one to one support for HIV positive service users withbasic IT skills, creating and updating C.V.’s and job search.

Campaign Volunteer

Volunteers Campaigners hostcampaign activities on a range of HIV & communityissues including World AIDS Day, National HIV Testing Week, LGBT History Month, IDAHOT, Refugee Week, International Women’s Day, National Sexual Health Week, Trans Day of Remembrance, Men’s Health Month, Liverpool Pride, World Hepatitis Day, World Mental Health Day, Valentine’s Dayand Dying Matters Week.

Information & Fundraising Volunteer

Volunteers Fundraisers raise much needed funds for Sahir House whist challenging the stigma and prejudice surrounding HIV in the general public. Activities include social media, info stalls, school talks, collections, sponsored events, cake sales, running marathons, encouraging business and online donations and disseminating red ribbons to demonstrate support for those who are living with HIV or to remember those who have died of HIV.

Volunteer Receptionist

Volunteer Receptionists provide a warm welcome to everyone visiting Sahir House & deal with telephone enquiries and assist with general admin for the charity.

Trans Health Merseyside volunteer peer mentors

Informal interview

Anyone who expresses an interest in volunteering is offered the opportunity of an informal interview. Call the office and ask to speak to the Development Manager or a member of office staff for an appointmentnext time we are recruiting.

New volunteer inductiontraining course

The training is experiential & participatory style learning & not classroom style. It aims to be informative, friendly, supportive & fun. It includes HIV and sexual health information;develops skills on how to challenging HIV and related prejudice & discrimination;equality and diversity; testimonies from people living with HIV; examples of how you can volunteer; importance of confidentiality; rights, roles responsibilities of volunteering at Sahir House and much more.100% attendance is required.

New volunteer induction

New volunteers have an individual meeting, during which a thorough induction into Sahir House takes place. This is for approximately up to one hour the week after the induction training course.

Benefits of volunteering at Sahir House:

Commitments and requirements for volunteering:

  • To have an empathy and availability to support people living with by HIV
  • To offer an active commitment for a minimum of a year (this is flexible)
  • To offer an active commitment (a few hours at a time) to Sahir House once a week or fortnightly (depending on your personal commitments)
  • To complete 100% of the new volunteer induction training course
  • To attend the volunteer team meetings
  • The ability to volunteer in a confidential manner
  • To be involved in Sahir House public eventssuch as World AIDS Day, National HIV Testing Week, Liverpool Pride, Trans Day of Remembrance (TDOR), Refugee Week, World Mental Health Day, Black History Month, Sahir House AGM, etc
  • To be reliable and punctual when volunteering and to organise your time accordingly
  • To be 18 or over and live within the Mersey region
  • Volunteer within the code of conduct, policies & procedures at all times
  • To undergo a DBS if supporting service users when lone working
