KAFP Resolution(s) to AAFP Congress

WHEREAS, the Kentucky Academy of Family Physicians’ bylaws in Chapter VII Section 2 states ‘Any active member may present to the secretary 15 days prior to annual meeting in writing any resolution(s) pertinent to the objectives of the Academy in relation to any report by any officer or committee of the Academy at the All-Member Business Meeting at the Annual Meeting Resolutions so offered shall be acted upon at said All-Member Business Meeting. Late resolutions may be accepted by a majority vote of all members present at the All-Member Business Meeting.”; and

WHEREAS, the Kentucky Academy of Family Physicians’ moved it annual meeting from May to November; and

WHEREAS, the AAFP Congress Meeting where state resolutions that direct the ‘AAFP to do …’ are taken up is held in September; and

WHEREAS, because of the change in dates of KAFP Annual Meeting resolutions that need to be addressed at the AAFP Congress would need to wait a full year; and

WHEREAS, health care issues of national importance are timely and postponing it a year may result in adverse consequences for the citizens of not only the Commonwealth but the nation; and

RESOLVED, that the Kentucky Academy of Family Physicians add a section to their bylaws to address resolutions to be submitted by members to the AAFP Congress;

RESOLVED, that under Chapter VII that Section 3. Read “KAFP Board of Directors will post to their website 90 days prior to the AAFP Congress a call for resolutions from any KAFP members they believe has a national focus (directs the AAFP to do …) that should be taken up by the AAFP Congress in September of the year submitted that can not be held till the All-Member Business Meeting in November. Said resolution by member will be posted 30 days to the KAFP website for all members comment prior to be taken up by the KAFP Board of Directors. That the KAFP Board of Directors will review said resolution with comments submitted by members at it meeting prior to the AAFP Congress in September and make a decision on whether to submit said KAFP member resolution to the AAFP Congress prior to approval at the All-Member Business Meeting. Regardless of decision to submit said resolution will be addressed at KAFP All-Member Business meeting.”
