Background Info

The purpose of this document is to capture the relevant information to begin planning and implementing the Mobile WMS project for the customer.

Audience

This document is filled out by the person responsible for placing the order with Tasklet Factory

Prerequisites

  • A fully functional Dynamics AX environment is required to start using the Mobile WMS solution. It is the responsibility of the customer’s Dynamics AX partner to provide such an environment.
  • At least one mobile device must be onsite with the customer before the installation process can be completed.
  • Tasklet Factory must have remote access to the customer’s environment if the server side installation is performed by Tasklet Factory.

Project Phases

The installation project is typically divided into the following phases:

  • Installation of the standard solution without customizations
    When this is complete, the mobile devices are operational and connected to the customer’s test environment. This allows the customer to start trying out the standard functionality on their own data and configuration.The tasks completed to get here are:

  • One or more mobile devices are available at the customer and they have been connected to the local wireless network
  • The mobile devices must be connected to Tasklet Factory’s device management system (MobiControl) to allow remote installation of the required software and licenses.
  • The mobile devices must have access to the Dynamics AX service tier server (AIF on IIS)

The mobile device tasks are typically handled by the customer with direct assistance from Tasklet Factory. In some cases the Dynamics AX partner takes the place of the customer.

Server side

  • Import the Dynamics AXmodel in the test database
  • Perform the basic configuration to get the system up and running

The server side tasks are typically handled by Tasklet Factory or the Dynamics AX partner.

  • Internal testing by the customer
    It is strongly recommended that the customer allocates internal resources to try out all the standard functions offered by the Mobile WMS solution. This will prepare them for “Go Live” and perhaps give inspiration to how current work processes can be simplified using the mobile devices.
    At this point the customer can also tryout different configurations of Dynamics AX to see how they affect the work processes on the mobile devices.
    This is also a good time to document any required customizations because the customer can experience how the standard solution works and this typically makes it easier to identify and document changes.
    At this point the customer has the option to either “Go Live” with all or a subset of the features offered by the Mobile WMS solution OR start the development of customizations.
  • Go Live
    When the customer is happy with the results of the internal testing, the solution can be deployed in the production environment.

Project Details

The most important thing when starting the installation of the Mobile WMS solution is to have the correct people assigned to the project. The installation process is quite simple, but sometimes technical challenges arise. If the right people are available, then most challenges can be solved quickly.

Please make sure to fill out the contact details for the people involved in the project. The people assigned to the project will get access to the Tasklet Factory Portal where manuals and e-learning courses related to the Mobile WMS solution can be accessed.
