Objectives- By the end of class students will be able to:
1.  Demonstrate and identify health ways to express emotions for dealing with relationships responsibly.
2.  Shape peer norms that value communicating emotions in healthy ways to deal with relationships & roles in relationships
3.  Use communication skills to express emotions appropriately to foster responsible relationships. / Materials:
Work-sheet (attached to lesson)
Dictionary or computer
Post-its

Standard 3: Resource Management
Do now (4-7 min): emotion words work-sheet
Have students review EMOTION WORDS worksheet and circle any words that they do not know. Use dictionary/computer and define words that are unknown to the class.
-  Discuss unknown words and their definitions.
-Tell class that these words will help them identify various emotions that they experience.
Activity #1 SKILLS FOR DEVELOPING GOOD EMOTIONAL HEALTH (7-12 min)
-  Ask class to brainstorm What are some skills for developing good emotional health? on board
Discuss their answers
-  Review & discuss list of skills from sheet
-  Explain “you are going to work on one of the skills that helps develop good emotional health- communicating emotions appropriately.
Activity #2 (7-12 min)
-  Distribute a blank post-it to each student
-  Tell them “this is your emotion ID card. Select an emotion from the list and draw a face, place, or action to depict the emotion you selected. Write the emotion on the post-it and do not show it to anyone. Your drawing will try to show this emotion and the class will try to guess which emotion you are describing.
-  Have class try to guess each students drawn emotion
Final Summary (2-3min)
Explain: throughout your life, people or situations will trigger emotional responses. Whether it’s a pleasant emotion such as love, or a troublesome emotion such as anger, human beings are emotionally expressive. Identifying our emotions through words can help us and others better understand our feelings. / -
