Course Description: Algebra 2 is the second of two Algebra courses which are aligned to the Pennsylvania State Keystone Anchors. Topics for this course will build on concepts previously learned in Algebra 1.

Tests: Exams will tentatively be given at the end of each unit. The contents of the tests will be announced in advance. Each test will comprise of approximately 100 points.

Quizzes: Quizzes will be announced and tentatively given once a week. Each quiz will comprise of approximately 20 – 40 points.

Homework/Class Activities: Homework will be given every day. Collected homework will comprise of 10 – 20 points. I will not collect homework every day. It is your responsibility to do all homework and be prepared to ask questions about any concerns the following day. Random homework quizzes will be assessed periodically.

Notebook: You will be required to keep a notebook. The notebook will consist of your class notes, homework, and assessments. Your Surface Pro will serve as your notebook. Any student that does not have access to a Surface Pro will be required to keep a paper/pencil notebook.

Calculator: Each student is required to have either a scientific or graphing calculator. (A TI-30 II with a display screen will work perfectly)

Surface Pro: Students will be able to take all notes and do all homework right from their Surface Pro. If used properly this will greatly cut down on handouts and binders. Surface Pro guidelines will be discussed in class.

Make-Up Assignments: It is your responsibility to make-up work. After a test is given, you will not be allowed to hand in any missed homework for that section.

AIC: AIC runs every Tuesday and Wednesday from 2:35 – 3:05. Any student who falls below a 70% average will be recommended into the study session. I do not restrict AIC to only students failing. Anyone who feels they need help is welcome to come.

Test Corrections: Each student will have an opportunity to correct their unit exams. Half credit is rewarded for each problem that is fixed correctly. You may use your notes, homework, and textbook when doing a test correction. ALL TEST CORRECTIONS MUST BE DONE OUTSIDE OF CLASS AND WITHIN 3 DAYS OF THE TEST BEING HANDED BACK. Each student will have 30 minutes to correct their tests. AIC is a great time to for this.

Extra Credit: Bulletin Board.

Keystone Exams: Any student who has either not taken or passed will be required to participate in the Algebra 1 Keystone Exams. This will be discussed further in class.

Academic Dishonesty: Cheating will not be tolerated. You will receive a zero on your first offense. Please consult your student handbook for other disciplinary actions.

Grading Scale: Your overall grade will be based on the total score of your tests, quizzes, homework, and class participation.

93% and above / A
85% to 92% / B
77% to 84% / C
70% to 76% / D
