Job Description:

The English/Language Arts Coordinator will be part the Area Career Center teaching faculty and have the primary responsibility of monitoring students that have not passed the English/Language Arts ECA. The Area Career Center entered into a partnership with Vincennes University and launched an Early College program in 2013-14. This position will teach some English classes based on the credentials of the person employed.

Education: Licensed Secondary English/Language Arts Teacher required. Candidate with master’s degree in English and experience with teaching literacy standards preferred, but not required.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and work directly with area career center students that have not passed the English/Language Arts ECA
  • Maintain current data on area career center students that have not passed the English/Language Arts ECA
  • Assist faculty with implementing Common Core Literacy Standards (Reading and Writing Standards for Literacy)
  • Assist the area career center in the future of implementing common core technical standards and common core standards
  • Become knowledgeable in the Literary-in-CTE national initiative, including assisting teachers in writing lessons
  • Assist faculty in increasing students reading comprehension and vocabulary
  • Assist faculty in working with their students in creating their professional portfolio
  • Assist students in passing any reading and writing placement exams needed for enrollment in dual credit courses
  • Assist students in writing essays for scholarships for post-secondary education
  • Teach some College English on-site with Vincennes University, depending on credentials needed
  • Other activities determined by Principal/Director of Career and Technical Education
