5.30pm

Committee members present:

Julie welcomed everyone, including our new member, Viv, who found us at the UoW summer staff Party on the cake stall! Julie also welcomedPam and Ian Goddard, together with Peter from the Leamington Dance Centre.

  • Julie then made this month’s announcements:

-Thanks to Desiree for her fundraising recently. A lot has been accomplished, but there is still more to do (see note below).

-Charlotte Maytum (UoW Development office) is looking for fundraising champions within departments or buildings. Contact her directly if you wish to support.

-There are lots of new events advertised online, including three university-supported research projects.

-Christmas Fairs are coming up, as well as craft events and all the information will go on to the WoW WI website.

-The Suffragettes film is now out and Elizabeth suggested it may be a good option for a social. Elizabeth to look at film times & options of a meal at Le Gusta too.

  • Fundraising:

Desiree has been collecting toiletries for packs in boxes across campus. 18 boxes were sent to Kos last week and 10 boxes are going to Lesbos this week. Everyone has been very generous. We are still collecting, though donations have decreased. The greatest need now is emergency blankets, warm clothes and waterproofs. There is a wish list on Amazon where people have been buying. The focus now is on immediate help. We are moving to long-term fundraising soon so that we could have our own pallet.

On 24 October there is a fundraising event in Coventry Market. It will be a lucky dip stall. Any help on the day would be very welcome, and donations of bits to have on the stall. Any help sending refresher emails would be grateful to remind everyone that we are still collecting.

In terms of raising for McMillan, thank you to Julie for the cake today. We are hopefully up to £70 overall now.

  • Next sessions:

November meeting AGM - new committee members will be voted in. More information will follow by email. Essentially we will hold elections for the committee, so start considering whether you would want to stand. We can always have more people on the committee and anyone is very welcome to join. We started it to have fun, and no one should be worried about it.

  • Elizabeth welcomed Pam and Ian Goddard from the Leamington Dance Centre. We also welcomed Peter, who had come along as an extra male dance partner.

Notes from session

Pam and Ian explained that we would be learning the Cha Cha and Social Foxtrot, which are quick to learn.

We danced the night away!!

Notes agreed to be accurate account of meeting
