The Specialist:
Using Mobile Data in Studio 4 SQL Edition

Changes from earlier versions

  • Mobile Data no longer requires that all users exit The Specialist: it can be done at any time, now.
  • Mobile Data takes between 5 and 20 minutes to check out, depending on how many changes have been made in the main datafile since the last mobile data checkout.
  • It takes about 5 or 10 minutes to check in your mobile data.

Starting and stopping the Mobile database

There is an icon at the top of the mobile data computer screen that has a red dot or a green diamond.

Example of the red dot icon

Example of the green diamond icon.

This icon shows the user if the Mobile data database is active. If it is red then the database is inactive, if it is green then database is active. To use mobile data (in the field, or when checking a mobile data in or out) this icon must display the green diamond or the mobile data will fail.

By clicking the icon (demonstrated in Example of the green diamond icon) the user will be presented with a menu allowing the user to start or stop the database. It will take about 30 seconds for the database to change state. Please ensure that any mobile data commands are not executed before waiting for 30 seconds.

The database should automatically start when computer is started or restarted. If this does not happen please contact Clintel support.

Mobile data users should also not use Sleep / hibernate while using Mobile data as this will stop the database (use shutdown or restart).

Doing a check-out

  1. From the main menu, click the Mobile Data icon:

The system is now ready to start the Mobile Data checkout mode you have selected. Mobile machines are now locked to a counter set (Clintel will have set the counter set of each mobile machine). This means mobile data will not prompt for selecting the counter set prior to checking mobile data out.

  1. Click the “Run!” button to start.

  2. A mobile data checkout window will appear and show you the progress of records copied from main database to mobile data database.

  3. Once all changed records have been copied to the mobile database the Specialist will restart and connect to the mobile database.

NOTE: Please carefully read any messages that come up during the check-in or check-out stages. If you receive any error messages (including “SQL errors”), please contact Clintel immediately to ensure the integrity of your Mobile Data is not compromised.

Doing a check-in

  1. From the main menu, click the Mobile Data icon:
  2. Check that the current database you are connected to is the mobile database e.g. (current database is ODBC_MOBILE). Then click the “Proceed” button.

  3. Click the “Check In” button to gather mobile data changes. All changes will be shown in the list box. Click the “Merge” button to merge the shown changes into the main Specialist database.

  4. Once all changed records have been copied to the main database the Specialist will restart and connect to the main database.
