Interviews (if granted) will be conducted in February at the 16 month mark and all candidates will be notified by mid-March.

The fellow will work with the Hamilton Arthroplasty Group and rotate among the fellowship trained arthroplasty surgeons. The group performs over 1800 hip and knee reconstructive procedures annually and is the regional referral center for complex hip and knee revision cases. Common procedures performed by the Hamilton Arthroplasty Group include primary hip and knee arthroplasty, revision hip and knee arthroplasty, hip resurfacing, unicondylar knee arthroplasty, patellofemoral knee arthroplasty hip fracture care and knee arthroscopy.
Fellows will be responsible for the surgical and non-surgical aspects of patient care, including ward and follow-up clinic responsibilities. The fellow will attend 2-3 OR sessions per week and 1-2 clinics with dedicated research time every week. A publication ready research project will be produced with the help of the Hamilton Arthroplasty Group research team. A large database of arthroplasty outcome data is available for research projects. The fellow will participate in on-call duties, weekly resident and clerkship teaching sessions and will be responsible for one Grand Rounds presentation.

The Fellow will work with the Orthopaedic Trauma Service (OTS) at a level one trauma center in Hamilton. The HamiltonGeneralHospital has a major trauma volume (ISS>18) of over 500 per annum and is the regional referral center for complex single limb traumatic injuries with a catchment of 2.5 million people. The OTS runs 5 dedicated orthopaedic trauma rooms per week in addition to after hours and weekend emergency work. The OTS manages all aspects of appendicular, pelvic and acetabular trauma.
McMasterUniversity is the world leader in Evidence-Based Research. Trauma Fellows willhave access to a leadingorthopaedic clinical research center (Director: Dr.M. Bhandari) and participate in high-impact researchduring the course of their fellowship. The fellow will produce at least one publication ready manuscript during the year. The fellow will attend 2 OR sessions per week and 1-2 clinics per week. A minimum of 1 day dedicated research time weekly will be protected. The fellow will assist with ward duties and surgical aftercare of inpatients. The fellow will participate in on call duties, weekly teaching sessions and be responsible for a Grand Rounds presentation.

The MacSports group at McMasterUniversity includes fellowship trained surgeons who treat the full range of sports related injuries. Subspecialty care in hip, knee, shoulder and upper extremity injuries is a focus of the group, providing the full range of modern care available to the athlete. The fellowship is preceptor based and the applicant will choose an area of focus. Areas include knee, hip, upper extremity, shoulder and general arthroscopy. The fellow can participate in the McMaster University Varsity level athletic team physician program through the year.
The fellow will attend 2 OR sessions per week and 1-2 clinics per week with dedicated research time weekly as well with the expectation that a publication ready manuscript is completed. The fellow will assist with ward duties and surgical aftercare of inpatients. The fellow will participate in on call duties, weekly teaching sessions and be responsible for a Grand Rounds presentation.

The Shoulder and Elbow group at McMaster University includes fellowship trained surgeons who treat the full range of shoulder and elbow pathology using both arthroscopic and open techniques. All soft tissue reconstructive techniques as well as all arthroplasty options for both joints are performed on a regular basis, with a case mix of 70% shoulder, 30% elbow. The fellow will gain some exposure to interventions for wrist disease with the group but may exercise an option to participate in a hand and wrist rotation with our Plastic Surgery team to gain increased familiarity in this area.

McMaster Children’s Hospital Orthopaedic service manages the full care of the paediatric patient for the Hamilton and surrounding area with a catchment of 2.5 million people. The fellow will be exposed to the operative and non-operative care of the paediatric patient to allow the fellow to increase his/her knowledge in the field.
The fellow will attend 2 OR sessions per week and 1-2 clinics per week with dedicated research time weekly as well with the expectation that a publication ready research project is completed. The fellow will assist with ward duties and surgical aftercare of inpatients. The fellow will participate in on call duties, weekly teaching sessions and be responsible for a Grand Rounds presentation.

The Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Center is the regional oncological referral center for Hamilton and surrounding area with a catchment of 2.5 million people. The Musculoskeletal Oncology Service manages all aspects of primary and metastatic musculoskeletal tumour care with 1.5 OR days per week dedicated to the care of primary musculoskeletal sarcomas.
